The Presence of “the Comforter” John 14 15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you.

He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn’t looking for Him and doesn’t recognize Him. 17

But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you.

Christ’s Expectations Jesus’ expects His followers to: • fulfill His commission • remain “in Him” • be expectantly watchful • do “greater things”

John 14 12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in Me will do the same works I have done, and even greater [works], because I am going to be with the Father.

• Jesus did not mean greater in the sense of more sensational, but greater in magnitude/number.

• Jesus would leave behind a victorious, working family of followers who would spread His kingdom to more people and places than Jesus ever did in His life and ministry.

The resurrection of Jesus opened the door for hope to come in. Now, because of what Christ has done for us…

…we can have hope instead of despair, peace instead of worry, freedom from the entanglement of sin, and grace for all our days.

All of these things are true and are available to those who follow Christ as Saviour and Lord of their lives. One thing is required, though, Submission!

Submission to Christ through being obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart!

Romans 6 …do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin… 12

…but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
