Rabbi Yitzi and Shoshana Genack The Genacks joined the RJC community in 2011 when

Rabbi Yitzi and Shoshana Genack The Genacks joined the RJC community in 2011 when Yitzi came as a rabbinic intern and soon after became the Assistant Rabbi and now serves as the Rabbi of the RJC. Rabbi Genack completed his B. A. in mathematics and received his semicha from YU/RIETS as a stayed member of the Wexner Kollel Elyon. He is completing his M. A. in Jewish history. He has been instrumental in promoting Torah using technology and social media. His Whats. App groups focusing on halacha, parsha and prayer have hundreds of participants. He has promoted and facilitated “pop up“ shiurim throughout the community. Rabbi Genack is proud of his role in cultivating chessed in Riverdale, including RJConnections, to ensure that those in need in our community are taken care of with dignity and support. In addition, he loves developing relationships with the RJC youth at Kinder Minyan and SNL. Rabbi Genack enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Rabbi Genack teaches 8 th grade in RYNJ and has worked as an Assistant Editor at OU Press. In his spare time he enjoys hiking. Shoshana enjoys hosting families for meals and helping with women's programming. Shoshana works as a clinical nutritionist at an outpatient practice at Columbia University medical center. She has also volunteered as a mikva attendant over the last few years during the mikva transition and has recently participated in the Nishmat/OU/RCA kallah teaching training for rebbetzins. The Genacks are the proud parents of 4 children: Tani, Yaakov, Avi and Yosef, who all love going to shul, attending groups, sitting on the stage, and drinking soda at the kiddush. The Genacks would like to wish a mazal tov to their fellow honorees Nachi and Tobey and Chaim and Mechal. The RJC is grateful to Rabbi and Shoshana Genack for all they have done and continue to do for RJC 64 th Annual Dinner 2 our community.

Mechal and Chaim Haas Being active in the community is very important to Mechal

Mechal and Chaim Haas Being active in the community is very important to Mechal and Chaim. While both shy away from the spotlight, they greatly enjoy helping others and ensuring the RJC, and the greater Jewish community, thrives and grows. They moved to Riverdale in 2002. Since then, Chaim has been an integral part of the lay leadership of the RJC, serving on the Executive Committee from 2010 -2017. Mechal prefers to work behind-the-scenes on numerous community events, preparing the Kiddush on Shabbos, and serving on the Yoetzet and By-Laws Committees. But, her claim to fame is being The Candy Lady in the balcony!! Mechal and Chaim’s families are both very committed to the Jewish community and they had tremendous role models in their great-grandparents, and parents. Chaim followed in the footsteps of his father, taking on the role of Gabbai in both the Young Couple’s and Main minyanim, as his father did in his shul for over 25 years. Mechal’s great-grandparents and grandparents started shuls and schools in NY and Florida and were active in many Jewish organizations. Her parents established the youth department in their synagogue, are active members of the HIR community, and her father is a proud member of Riverdale CSS. Chaim works on the Communications team at Bloomberg, while Mechal works with non-profits. They are active volunteers with the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, where Mechal serves on the Advisory Board, and Cycle for Survival. They mentor young professionals and enjoy spending time with their 18 nieces and nephews. Mechal and Chaim were privileged to have worked with Miriam Schonfeld A”H’ and were inspired by her commitment and tremendous dedication to the Riverdale community. They are honored to receive the award named for her. They are also excited to be recognized together with Rabbi Yitzi and Shoshana Genack and Tobey and Nachi Karpel, both of whom have had a tremendous impact on our community. RJC 64 th Annual Dinner 3

Following in the footsteps of parents and grandparents -- and at the same time

Following in the footsteps of parents and grandparents -- and at the same time creating your own unique footprint -- is not always an easy thing to do. Chaim and Mechal have done that with ease and grace, making it look as natural as breathing in and breathing out. This conclusion is enhanced by the knowledge that, as close relatives, we have a lifetime of shared experiences with Chaim's parents and grandparents. We love Chaim and Mechal and are awed by the broad range of their individual and combined capabilities and their dedication to each other and to family, friends and community.
