PRIORITIES---DISTRICT CPS Vision The vision makes three commitments that build on recent successes and reflects the values and priorities of the administration.

DISTRICT: PRIORITY ONE Academic Progress: The District will continue to expand access to proven successful programs and strategies, such as IB, STEM, and computer science implementation, to ensure that our students are prepared for a globally connected and changing society. Additionally, more students will have access to rigorous coursework with the possibility of earning college credit for exemplary performance. By continuing to recruit, support, and retain talented teachers and administrators, students will be provided with the social and emotional support needed to reach their full potential

DISTRICT: PRIORITY TWO Financial Stability: Financial stability allows CPS students to build on academic

DISTRICT: PRIORITY TWO Financial Stability: Financial stability allows CPS students to build on academic gains without disruptions to the classroom. By brainstorming innovative ways to manage and operate our administration more efficiently and effectively, CPS can reduce costs and cut spending. CPS leadership and thousands of parents helped advocate for equitable funding and placed pressure on state leadership to ensure schools opened on time with a balanced budget. The District will continue to take steps towards stability and urge the state to provide equitable funding that the students deserve

DISTRICT: PRIORITY THREE Integrity: More parents are choosing CPS than ever before. By establishing

DISTRICT: PRIORITY THREE Integrity: More parents are choosing CPS than ever before. By establishing trust and a shared vision, the District and its stakeholders can work collaboratively to achieve positive results. By prioritizing active communication and transparency, the District can engage with stakeholders, community members, and other partners to receive feedback about how to best serve the community.

EVERGREEN: VISION & MISSION 2018 -2019 Vision Evergreen Academy Middle School will ensure that

EVERGREEN: VISION & MISSION 2018 -2019 Vision Evergreen Academy Middle School will ensure that students have an environment guided by the middle school values of academic excellence, social equity, developmental responsiveness and a positive organizational structure that is conducive to and supportive of all learners. Mission We at Evergreen Academy Middle School create a collaborative and safe environment with rigorous and differentiated curriculum that aligns with the Common Core State Standards. We empower all students to explore, create, and make decisions while actively participating in, and being accountable for their learning as they become College and Career ready in an economically, culturally, socially and religiously diverse world.

CIWP: OUR SCHOOL PRIORITIES: 1 & 2 Instruction If we examine and reflect on

CIWP: OUR SCHOOL PRIORITIES: 1 & 2 Instruction If we examine and reflect on student work for rigor and alignment to Common Core State Standards, then we will see purposeful tasks in the classroom that are cognitively challenging and require students to provide evidence of their reasoning which will then lead to the qualities of strategic thinking that are both rich in content and relevant for students. Rigorous Tasks If we persist in continuous reflection of instruction and adjust pedagogical approaches to meet a range of student needs, then we will see the use of differentiated questioning and discussion protocols that engage students in authentic discussions using viable arguments based on evidence Which will lead to fostering student discourse and increased student agency, authority and identity.

CIWP: OUR SCHOOL PRIORITIES SCHOOL : 3 & 4 Balanced Assessments If we analyze

CIWP: OUR SCHOOL PRIORITIES SCHOOL : 3 & 4 Balanced Assessments If we analyze and evaluate the standard alignment of assessments to ensure they meet the shifts of the CCSS Then we will see assessments that accurately assess the standards based curriculum and student learning Which leads to the opportunity for quantitative data analysis to support ongoing instruction and student outcomes. MTSS If we collaborate and work as teams of teachers and Related Service Providers to analyze and monitor appropriate data (On Track, NWEA, Attendance, Progress Monitoring) to plan targeted student support with varied instructional strategies, then we will see the use of more effective interventions that include student strengths, needs, motivations, and outlines an individualized learning path which will lead to student demonstration of growth and attainment empowering them to advance their learning.

What is the SQRP? • The School Quality Rating Policy (SQRP) is the Board of Education’s policy for evaluating school performance. • It establishes the indicators of school performance and growth and the benchmarks against which a school’s success will be evaluated on an annual basis. • Through this policy, each school will receive a School Quality Rating and an Accountability Status. Office of Accountability 15

What is the Purpose of the SQRP? The School Quality Rating and Accountability Status

What is the Purpose of the SQRP? The School Quality Rating and Accountability Status serve the following purposes: • Communicating to parents and community members about the academic success of individual schools and the district as a whole; • Recognizing high achieving and high growth schools and identifying best practices; • Providing a framework for goal-setting for schools; • Identifying schools in need of targeted or intensive support; and • Guiding the Board’s decision-making processes around school actions and turnarounds. Office of Accountability 16

How Are Ratings Assigned? • • • Schools earn between 1 – 5 points for each metric. Points are weighted according to the tables on slide 6 and added together. The school’s overall score is also between 1 – 5. Based on the overall score (or minimum attainment percentile – see below), the school receives a School Quality Rating and Accountability Status. Overall Score Minimum Attainment Percentile School Quality Rating Accountability Status 4. 0 or more 90 th Level 1+ Good Standing 70 th Level 1 Good Standing 50 th Level 2+ Good Standing 40 th Level 2 Provisional Support -- Level 3 Intensive Support Between 3. 5 and 3. 9 Between 3. 0 and 3. 4 Between 2. 0 and 2. 9 Less than 2. 0 OR 17

What Does the School’s Status Mean Good Standing Levels 1+ - 2+ These schools are meeting or exceeding the minimum performance expectations for CPS schools. While these schools are still bound by federal and state law and CPS policies, they have some autonomy around school improvement planning and budgets. LSCs approve CIWPs in these schools. Provisional Support Level 2 Intensive Support Level 3 These schools are in need of targeted support to keep them moving in the right direction. The CEO may require the following: These schools are in need of intensive support to quickly improve the quality of education for students. In addition to the types of support provided under “Provisional Support”, the following actions may be taken*: • Replacing the principal • School turnaround • Ordering new LSC elections • Closure • • Drafting a new CIWP Directing the implementation of the CIWP Providing additional training for the LSC Mediating disputes or other obstacles to improvement If the CEO determines the problems are not able to be remediated by the above methods, the CEO may place the school in Intensive Support. *These actions are allowable under Illinois School Code, but will not necessarily happen in all “Intensive Support” schools. A hearing and a Board vote are required for these actions. 18

CONTINUOUS CYCLE OF IMPROVEMENT Theory of Action Overall: f we develop teacher practices and cycles of continuous improvement that promotes the value of learning then we see a mind shift in teachers where they value each child's learning as important and persevere in achieving success which leads to an adaptive change in the school culture for learning. Cycle One: If we are intentional about purposing our lessons, then 100% of teachers will consistently purpose the lesson for clarity, consistency, equity and focus of instruction. Cycle Two: If we cultivate teacher moves for word knowledge instruction, than teachers will utilize more effective strategies for increased use of Tier Two words. Cycle Three: If teachers pair their questions with discussion protocols that support appropriate student discourse and critical thinking then teachers will find it necessary to raise the Do. K level of questions to improve rigor and student level of learning.
