Evaluation This evaluation covers the process of creating my final piece, the evaluation on my blog covers an overview of the project, as well as feedback from my target market.

Real Media conventions My media both uses and challenges conventions of real media products.

Real Media conventions My media both uses and challenges conventions of real media products. My contents page is based on the layout of the Bath Life magazine, I liked the idea of having a photo of the main article in the centre if the contents page, as well as images of other articles around it. I thought theme would be perfect for my target market as it has a clean layout which is still artistic due to its imagery.

Real Media Conventions (continued) Although I have challenged some conventions of real media products. I have mainly challenged the conventions for the articles in regional magazines. Most regional magazine articles are based on recent markets or yearly events such as tattoo conventions and wedding markets but my articles will be mainly based on local musicians and their performances.

Real Media Conventions (continued) Although the use of a billboard advertisement is odd for a regional magazine I thought it would be something I could challenge normal conventions with.

Flick through Frome magazine with the Ancillaries I think my website and billboard promotes the magazine by showing what the magazine has to offer without withdrawing the point of the magazine. I deliberately did not put much information of the articles on the website as people are less likely to buy the magazine if they have already read the article they wanted to read online but it also gives just enough to intrigue the reader to buy the magazine which is what I wanted. I was inspired by some of the websites I viewed through the way in which they try to engage the reader.

Audience Feedback (continued) My audience said they could see it working alongside pre-existing regional magazine due to its similar conventions. people liked the way in which I imbedded the music into my website and it made them want to read the interview as well as listening to more of the band's music.

Media Technologies Whilst planning I used fewer media technologies as I was mainly working off of my research and my own ideas. I edited a few images which I did not use for my final piece as I thought it was not very fitting for my initial ideas. Although I had many photo shoots through this stage so I had a wide collection to choose from. I am glad I had many photo shoots as I did not use the photos I initially thought I would as they didn't fit with the article I finished my production with.

Media Technologies (continued) I used most of the media technologies in the construction stage

Media Technologies (continued) I used most of the media technologies in the construction stage as I not only used the photos I took during the planning stage I had to edit them on photo shop several times so I could get the right hue for my magazine, I also used In. Design to create the magazine as well. All the photos were edited on Photoshop, using one program made it easier for me as I was able to easily convert the or change them if I needed to after I thought I finished editing them, which happened a couple of times. I also used Photoshop to created the billboard for the magazine on Photoshop.

Media Technologies (continued) I used In. Design to create the magazine itself as I find it is easier to find the correct format I needed to create the magazine to the quality I wanted it to be.

Media Technologies (continued) I used a site called Wix websites to create the website for the magazine, I decided to use them after reading a good review whilst trying to find one right for me. This site let me add Soundcloud files unlike other websites I considered. This made it easier for me to apply the sound track I needed.

Research for my final piece I found the research I made incredibly useful as it gave me inspiration for my final piece. Through my codes and conventions research I was able to find conventions in regional magazines which helped my planning process. Although I think my Questionnaire helped my planning stage the most as I was able to find out what my target market want.

Planning for my final piece I think this was the most important stage of

Planning for my final piece I think this was the most important stage of my project, if I did not plan properly I do not think I would have the final piece I have. My human resources planning helped me working out who I need for the project, this also helped me see how many people it should take to create a real magazine. Equipment planning is of equal value as if I did not have the equipment I needed I wouldn’t have been able to use the people I needed. Although the mise-en-scene planning was more important as I would not have been able to effectively use my time if I didn’t know what I needed, where I wanted scenes and what I wanted I shot.

Front Cover draft As you can see this is the draft for my front

Front Cover draft As you can see this is the draft for my front cover, the main issue I had was creating the name of the magazine. The front cover draft is very basic as I found the photos I took in my photo shoots were quite busy photos so I thought the contrast would work well. I changed the design a lot as the photo I used for my final piece wasn’t as busy as anticipated when creating the draft. I used real life events for some of the article titles on the front cover, such as information about the Frome cinema as it was re-opening when I created the draft, as well as the rock bands in Frome, that weekend had the battle of the bands event at the local music venue. Although I didn’t use the band article in my final piece.

Process of the Front Cover There isn’t much process in the front cover as it did not take that long to make. After I edited the photo and found a suitable font I was able to finish the front cover quickly. I added the banner and barcode later on, hence these two stages in the process.

Contents page draft My contents page hasn’t changed much, the layout is the exact

Contents page draft My contents page hasn’t changed much, the layout is the exact same. The only thing that has changed is the page numbers and they now have content on the contents page. I thought this was the perfect layout as it follows many regional magazine conventions. The layout is influenced by the layout in the Bath Life regional magazine. The space for the advert really shows how it could be or become a real regional magazine. As my article does not follow any regional magazine conventions I thought it was necessary to make the contents page as conventional as possible, plus through my research I found this is what my target market wants to see in a regional magazine

Process of the Contents Page As you can see this is the process of

Process of the Contents Page As you can see this is the process of my contents page, it took about 2 days to create, about 6 hours in total. The most time consuming part of the process was editing the photos and making them the correct size in Photoshop, this became difficult as I had to reduce the size slowly and then apply it to the In. Design file. I also found it difficult to find the perfect shade of blue and pink, which were easy to read as well as being soft tones.

Article Draft I found my article wasn’t a conventional regional magazine article as it

Article Draft I found my article wasn’t a conventional regional magazine article as it was based off of a new band where as conventional regional magazines have articles about past or upcoming events in the local area. I thought it would be perfect to make young people more interested in regional magazines. I found this out through my questionnaire as many thought it would be a fresh twist on normal media conventions. As you can see this is quite a basic plan covering the articles questions. The article is based off of an interview so I though it would be best to make a plan of the questions and then work from there. I have made points I need to cover in the article from the questions I asked the band members. This plan worked well for me as I did not waffle in the article.

Process of the Article As you can see this is the process of the

Process of the Article As you can see this is the process of the article, I had the article laid out before I started writing. This made it easier as I knew how much would fit on the article so I did not have to shorten it or add to the article. Having the article laid out meant I could also focus on the writing rather than worry about how much space I have to leave for the next paragraph.
