Mission Statement The mission of Culver City Middle School, a culturally diverse and collaborative learning community, is to ensure that all students are provided a rigorous education program. Culver City Middle School Program • Each grade level has three teams (language arts, social studies, math, science teachers). • Students are randomly assigned to a team. • Teachers meet weekly to: plan crosscurricular/interdisciplinary units; plan team reward activities and field trips; discuss intervention and/or enrichment activities; meet with parents • Block Scheduling – possibly a new bell schedule next year!

Language Arts Cathi Green-Bratton, Annie Zarrinpar, Dan Grime • Provides a balanced, unified program of instruction in language, reading, literature, composition and communication. • Engages the students in a variety of essential skills which include listening, speaking, writing and critical thinking. • Use language effectively in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. • Read a variety of literature, including fiction, non-fiction, short stories, plays and poetry. • Learn to utilize correct spelling, grammar and vocabulary.

Objective • To expand students knowledge of Ancient Western and Non-Western Civilizations using the California State Content Standards as a guide. • Also offered in Spanish as a continuation of our Spanish Immersion Program and is also available to Native Speakers

Mathematics Concepts and Skills Donna Bergonzi, Emily Vandever, Kristin Fairfield, Lauren Borcherding Based on the Common Core State Standards, Math 6 offers a balanced curriculum. Fluency of basic skills and the application of those skills are emphasized.

Physical Education Jason Vermillion, Karen Wyatt • The 6 th grade level is designed to provide students with appropriate introductory P. E. skills including: the acquisition of basic skills for court games; running games; rhythmic activities; individual and team sports; and physical conditioning. • Special emphasis is placed on basic ball handling skills along with movement exploration activities, and modified games.

Special Education offers a full range of services: • Learning Center • Speech and language • Adaptive PE • Specialized Academic Instruction • Services for our severely handicapped population Students with a current IEP will automatically receive appropriate services.

ELD MISSION STATEMENT The mission of Culver City Unified School District is to prepare its English Learners to: • develop a positive self-concept and cross-cultural understanding • meet requirements for redesignation as Fluent English Proficient • graduate from high school ready to pursue careers or further education

CCMS Scholars Program • Classes offered in English Language Arts • Applications will be available in elementary school offices as well as CCMS Website – criteria will be defined in April and included as part of the application • Students will learn of their course placement status at registration in August.

ASB Associated Student Body ASB is a school leadership opportunity for 7 th and 8 th grade students in good academic standing to participate in the following activities: • Represent the interest and goals of the entire CCMS student body. • Being the voice of the students when communicating with the faculty, school district, and community. • Plan, organize, and participate in such activities as formal and informal dances, Spirit Week, grade-level competitions, community and charity awareness projects, cultural events, and other student and school events throughout the year. ASB is a year-long class that teaches students leadership qualities throughout the year. Students who have interest in applying for ASB must submit an application form, teacher recommendation forms, and must be in good academic standing.

Student Recognition Scholarship League Students who have a 3. 0 GPA and no N’s or U’s on any report card receive a certificate and are honored at special events throughout the year. Principal’s Honor Roll Students who have a 3. 75 GPA and no N’s or U’s on any report card receive a certificate and are honored at special events throughout the year. Caught You Being Good Students receive tickets for good citizenship/Effort. Weekly drawings are held where students receive prizes such as gift certificates, early to lunch passes, lunch with the principal.

GATE The GATE program at Culver City Middle School provides enrichment and learning opportunities for our GATE students. Teen Center LOCATION: VETS Park HOURS: Monday - Friday, 2 p. m. – 6: 30 p. m. MEMBERSHIP: $50 per semester. Open to all residents of Culver City and students who attend CCMS on permit. School Site Council/ELAC The School Site Council has developed a site plan to enhance the learning opportunities for the students at CCMS. Categorical funds are specifically earmarked to support the site plan. The council meets on the third Thursday of every month at 5: 30 p. m. Our English Learner Advisory Committee, comprised of parents, staff, and community members, is specifically designated to advise school officials on English Learner program services. They meet the second Tuesday of every month at 8: 45 am.

The PTSA is an active group of parents, teachers and students who support Culver City Middle School in many ways. They give freely of their time to support State and National PTA programs. They also help raise money for the CCMS staff and students. Student Store Volunteers The Student Store is staffed totally by parent volunteers. The Student Store sells school supplies, PE clothes, and treats. Depending on the availability of parents, the store is open several days a week during lunch and after school. If you have free time, please join us.

PANTHER PARTNERS Panther Partners raises money for after-school programs at CCMS in arts, academics and athletics.
