LENT Week 4 TUESDAY MORNING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Hear our voice, O Lord, according to your faithful love, All according to your judgement, give us life.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.

PSALM Psalm 17 part 1 (Good News Translation)

Listen, O LORD, to my plea for justice; pay attention to my cry for help! Listen to my honest prayer.

2 You will judge in my favour, because you know what is right.

3 You know my heart. You have come to me at night; you have examined me completely and found no evil desire in me.

I speak no evil, 4 as others do; I have obeyed your command have not followed paths of violence.

5 I have always walked in your way and have never strayed from it.

6 I pray to you, O God, because you answer me; so turn to me and listen to my words. 7 Reveal your wonderful love and save me; at your side I am safe from my enemies.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Generous Lord, deliver us from all envious thoughts, and when we are tempted by the desire for wealth, let us see your face; for your abundance is enough to clothe our lack; through Jesus Christ. Amen.

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard the Sadducees arguing. He noticed that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer. So he asked him, “Which is the most important of all the commandments? ” 29 Jesus answered, “Here is the most important one. Moses said, ‘Israel, listen to me. The Lord is our God. The Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength. ’ (Deut. 6. 4, 5) 31 And here is the second one. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself. ’ (Lev. 19. 18) There is no commandment more important than these. ” 32 “You have spoken well, teacher, ” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one. There is no other God but him. 33 To love God with all your heart and mind and strength is very important. So is loving your neighbor as you love yourself. These things are more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. ” 34 Jesus saw that the man had answered wisely. He said to him, “You are not far from God’s kingdom. ” From then on, no one dared to ask Jesus any more questions. (Mark 12. 28 -34; NIr. V)

All Merciful Lord, you know our struggle to serve you: when sin spoils our lives and overshadows our hearts, come to our aid and turn us back to you again; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Trusting in the compassion of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:
