LENT Week 2 TUESDAY EVENING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Hear our voice, O Lord, according to your faithful love, All according to your judgement, give us life.

Blessed are you, Lord God of our Salvation: All to you be praise and glory for ever.

In the darkness of our sin, you have shone in our hearts: All to give the light of the knowledge of your glory in the face of Christ.

May the knowledge of your presence free us from sin and shame, All that we may grow into your likeness from glory to glory.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!

That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.

All As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us, to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise, now and for ever. Amen.

PSALM Psalm 54 (Good News Translation)

Save me by your power, O God; set me free by your might! 2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to my words!

3 Proud people are coming to attack me; cruel people are trying to kill me— those who do not care about God.

4 But God is my helper. The Lord is my defender. 5 May God use their own evil to punish my enemies. He will destroy them because he is faithful.

6 I will gladly offer you a sacrifice, O LORD; I will give you thanks because you are good. 7 You have rescued me from all my troubles, and I have seen my enemies defeated.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

41 The other ten disciples heard about it. They became angry at James and John. 42 Jesus called them together. He said, “You know about those who are rulers of the Gentiles. They hold power over their people. Their high officials order them around. 43 Don’t be like that. Instead, anyone who wants to be important among you must be your servant. 44 And anyone who wants to be first must be the slave of everyone. 45 Even the Son of Man did not come to be served. Give me again the joy that comes from your salvation, All and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach sinners your commands, All and they will turn back to you. That we may have the courage to give up our selfishness to live for God and others, following Christ.

All Almighty God, you see that we have no power of ourselves to help ourselves: keep us both outwardly in our bodies, and inwardly in our souls; that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Trusting in the compassion of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:
