Gabriel's Message Of her, Emmanuel the Christ, was born, In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn, And christian folk throughout the world will ever say: “Most highly favour’d lady” Gloria!

Zo is het beloofd Jezus als kind aan de wereld beloofd, Komt bij ons wonen als mens heel dichtbij. Wie had durven dromen, wie had dit geloofd? De Verlosser wordt mens zoals wij. Zo stond het geschreven, zo is het beloofd; Een Redder is gekomen, brengt iedereen hoop!

Zo is het beloofd Gloria, gloria klinkt in de nacht. Een lied over vrede aan herders gebracht. Gloria zingt heel het engelenkoor. Ere zij God! Het lied klinkt in stilte nog door.

Zo is het beloofd Jezus de hoop voor een wereld in nood, Komt in ons wonen en blijft voor altijd. Wie heeft ons de weg naar de Vader getoond? Jezus, Redder die ons heeft bevrijd. Zo stond het geschreven, zo is het beloofd; Een Redder is gekomen, brengt iedereen hoop!

Lezing Matteüs 1: 18 -25

18. De afkomst van Jezus Christus was als volgt. Toen zijn moeder Maria al was uitgehuwelijkt aan Jozef maar nog niet bij hem woonde, bleek ze zwanger te zijn door de heilige Geest. 19. Haar man Jozef, die een rechtschapen mens was, wilde haar niet in opspraak brengen en dacht erover haar in het geheim te verstoten.

20. Toen hij dit overwoog, verscheen hem in een droom een engel van de Heer. De engel zei: ‘Jozef, zoon van David, wees niet bang je vrouw Maria bij je te nemen, want het kind dat ze draagt is verwekt door de heilige Geest. 21. Ze zal een zoon baren. Geef hem de naam Jezus, want hij zal zijn volk bevrijden van hun zonden. ’

22. Dit alles is gebeurd opdat in vervulling zou gaan wat bij monde van de profeet door de Heer is gezegd: 23. ‘De maagd zal zwanger zijn en een zoon baren, en men zal hem de naam Immanuël geven, ‘wat in onze taal betekent ‘God met ons’.

24. Jozef werd wakker en deed wat de engel van de Heer hem had opgedragen: hij nam haar bij zich als zijn vrouw, 25. maar hij had geen gemeenschap met haar voordat ze haar zoon gebaard had. En hij gaf hem de naam Jezus.

Overdenking

Een toekomst vol van hoop In de nacht van strijd en zorgen kijken wij naar U omhoog, biddend om een nieuwe morgen, om een toekomst vol van hoop. Ook al zijn er duizend vragen, al begrijpen wij U niet, U blijft ons met liefde dragen, U die alles overziet.

Een toekomst vol van hoop U geeft een toekomst vol van hoop; dat heeft U aan ons beloofd. Niemand anders, U alleen, leidt ons door dit leven heen.

Een toekomst vol van hoop U heeft ons geluk voor ogen. Jezus heeft het ons gebracht. Mens, als wij, voor ons gebroken in de allerzwartste nacht. U bent God, de Allerhoogste, God van onbegrensde macht. Wij geloven en wij hopen op het einde van de nacht.
