Debrief
HOLLAND PERSONAS
Debrief Questions: 1. How would you guide this student in the career decision making process? 2. What considerations would you make when designing classroom activities?
Persona 1: Betty (Realistic) Betty is a 16 year old female whose favorite projects to work on in school are hands-on, i. e. working with tools and building things. For example, she won the science fair where she built a working model of a volcano. She is the President of the Horticulture Club and was part of a fundraiser to support the beautification of the elementary school playground. She enjoys gymnastics and soccer and her favorite subjects are math and technology-related areas.
Persona 2: Barney (Investigative) Barney is a 14 year old freshman with a strong aptitude in science and math. He loves solving problems and his favorite thing to watch on Netflix is C. S. I. , Mythbusters, and The Next 48 Hours. He is very thoughtful and tends to take all of the time allotted for completion of projects and tests. Barney always wants to know “why” and can at times be a nuisance to his teachers. He has few friends but they are very close and they are founding members of the school’s Dungeons and Dragons Club.
Persona 3: Wilma (Artistic) Wilma is a senior in high school and has always had a propensity for creativity. She has very eclectic style and has won awards for her designs in several media formats including jewelry and graphic design. Wilma is involved in the drama club and has been the head of set design for the last two school productions. She has a diverse range of interests and is struggling with what she wants to do postgraduation.
Persona 4: Jane (Social) Jane is an extremely extroverted, highly articulate junior. She is class president and is involved in debate club as well as being a peer support for the freshman class. Jane’s favorite classes are English, Social Studies, Psychology and Sociology. She volunteers at a local hospital’s front desk and at the library where she reads during story hour to children. She recently shadowed the Director of Community Outreach at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Persona 5: Fred (Enterprising) Fred is a very outgoing, gregarious, and assertive 16 year old boy who works with the local community college’s NEO Launch Program to help him further a concept he has for a new phone app. He is an Eagle Scout, the junior class representative; and he raised over $1000. 00 for a new cafeteria vending machine. He also won the top prize for selling the most coupon books in the class fundraiser. Fred’s favorite subjects are marketing, business, and psychology.
Persona 6: Judy (Conventional) Judy is a 15 year old process-oriented student with a strong attention to detail. She responds best in structured environments where clear directions are provided for her to follow. Her favorite subjects are business math, data processing, and English. Judy volunteers at the school’s food pantry and enjoys organizing and tracking donations. She is in the Accounting Club, head of the Yearbook Committee, and is a library volunteer. She is also on the Prom Planning Committee.
