Welding Symbols z Developed by the American Welding

Welding Symbols z. Developed by the American Welding Society in the 1930’s. z. Welding symbol refers to the total symbol including all information added to specify the weld(s) required. z. Weld symbol refers to the symbol for a specific type of weld.

z A standard welding symbol consists of: za reference line zused to apply weld symbol and other data. zan arrow zconnects the reference line to the joint or area to be welded. za tail zadded only when needed for giving a specific process or other reference.

z. A welding symbol may or may not use: z. Basic weld symbol zdescribes the weld accurately and completely z. Dimensions and other data zgives the size/placement of weld z. Finish symbol zmethod of finish z. Supplementary symbol zweld all around, field weld, contour of finish weld

z. The arrow is always drawn at an angle to the reference line. z. The reference line is always drawn horizontal to the bottom of the print. z. It is never drawn parallel or in the same plane as the reference line.

Weld Symbols When the weld symbol appears on the top, the weld is placed on the other side

When the weld symbol appears on the bottom, the weld is placed on the arrow side
