EPIPHANY Week 1 WEDNESDAY EVENING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

From the rising of the sun to its setting, All your glory is proclaimed in all the world.

O God, make speed to save us, All O Lord, make haste to help us.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God, our light and our salvation: All to you be praise and glory for ever.

You gave your Christ as a light to the nations, All and through the anointing of the Spirit, you established us as a royal priesthood.

As you call us into your marvellous light, All may our lives bear witness to your truth and our lips never cease to proclaim your praise.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!

That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.

All As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us, to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise, now and for ever. Amen.

GOD’S MYSTERY revealed in Christ

PSALM Psalm 78 part 4/6 (Good News Translation)

40 How often they rebelled against him in the desert; how many times they made him sad! 41 Again and again they put God to the test and brought pain to the Holy God of Israel.

42 They forgot his great power and the day when he saved them from their enemies 43 and performed his mighty acts and miracles in the plain of Zoan in the land of Egypt.

44 He turned the rivers into blood, and the Egyptians had no water to drink. 45 He sent flies among them, that tormented them, and frogs that ruined their land.

46 He sent locusts to eat their crops and to destroy their fields. 47 He killed their grapevines with hail and their fig trees with frost.

48 He killed their cattle with hail and their flocks with lightning. 49 He caused them great distress by pouring out his anger and fierce rage, which came as messengers of death.

50 He did not restrain his anger or spare their lives, but killed them with a plague. 51 He killed the first-born sons of all the families of Egypt.

52 Then he led his people out like a shepherd and guided them through the desert. 53 He led them safely, and they were not afraid; but the sea came rolling over their enemies.

54 He brought them to his holy land, to the mountains which he himself conquered. 55 He drove out the inhabitants as his people advanced; he divided their land among the tribes of Israel and gave their homes to his people.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

God our Shepherd, in all our wanderings and temptations, teach us to rest in your mercy and trust in your defence; through him who laid down his life for us, in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus was the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead, ” the messenger said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore. ” 50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just believe. She will be healed. ” 51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let everyone go in with him. He took only Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52 During this time, all the people were crying and sobbing loudly over the child. “Stop crying!” Jesus said. “She is not dead. She is sleeping. ” 53 They laughed at him. They knew she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand said, “My child, get up!” 55 Her spirit returned, and right away she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were amazed. But Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened. (Luke 8. 49 -56; NIr. V)

Arise, shine, for your light has come, All the glory of the Lord is rising upon you. God’s salvation has been openly shown to all people, All Declare his glory among the nations. Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit: All Arise, shine, for your light has come, the glory of the Lord is rising upon you.

PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD -For the people met during the day and their needs -For the Church and her mission

For doctors and nurses and all people working in our local surgeries and hospitals.

All O God, you know us to be set in the midst of so many dangers that because of our frailty we cannot always stand upright: give us strength and protection, support us in all dangers and carry us through all temptations; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Believing in the promises of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
