Lord our God, reveal among us the light of your presence, All that we may see your power and glory.

(Time of quiet to be in presence of the Lord)

O God, make speed to save us, All O Lord, make haste to help us.

Blessed are you, Sovereign Lord, God of Abraham and Sarah and all the patriarchs of old; All to you be praise and glory for ever.

You are our Father too, and your love is revealed to us in Jesus Christ, All your Son and the son of David.

Help us in preparing to celebrate his birth, All to make our hearts ready for your Holy Spirit to make his home among us.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!

That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.

All As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us, to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise, now and for ever. Amen.

PSALM Psalm 89 part 4/4 (Good News Version)

46 LORD, how long will you hide yourself? Will it be forever? How long will your anger burn like fire?

47 Remember how short my life is. You have created all people for such a useless purpose! 48 Who can live and not die? Who can escape the power of the grave?

49 Lord, where is the great love you used to have? You faithfully promised it to David. 50 Lord, remember how my enemies have made fun of me. I’ve had to put up with mean words from all the nations.

51 LORD, your enemies have said mean things. They have laughed at everything your anointed king has done. 52 Give praise to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Lord, when death appals us and you hide your face, may we know our life is hidden with Christ, our hope of glory and our risen Lord. Amen.

He will not judge things only by the way they look. He won’t make decisions based simply on what people say. 4 He will always do what is right when he judges those who are in need. He’ll be completely fair when he makes decisions about poor people. When he commands that people be punished, it will happen. All O Lord our God, make us watchful and keep us faithful as we await the coming of your Son our Lord; that, when he shall appear, he may not find us sleeping in sin but active in his service and joyful in his praise. We pray you through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Awaiting his coming in glory, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray with confidence:
