THE WORD OF GOD SUNDAY EVENING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love
WELCOME TO OUR SUNDAY EVENING SERVICE. This Power. Point presentation will give you all you need to celebrate at home this service. For the Song/Hymn, just click on the titles, and the weblink will open it directly in your computer. It has not always been possible to find traditional hymns with lyrics on the screen, and some have just to be listened to. Watch the video in full screen, then come back to this presentation. You have the choice between a modern song or a traditional hymn. The Psalm can be read by two people or two groups of people if you want. You may start by lighting a candle.
(Time of quiet to be in presence of the Lord)
Speak, Lord, All for your servant is listening.
SONG/HYMN Modern Song: ‘Your Word, O Lord’ Traditional Hymn: ‘The Word was God’
Jesus, our Lord, is the eternal Word, All through whom all things came into being.
He is the Word made flesh who dwelt among us, All full of grace and truth.
He fulfilled the Law and the prophets, All dying for our sins and rising again according to the Scriptures.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!
That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.
All As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us, to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise, now and for ever. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD A light on our path
PSALM (Good News Version) Psalm 66 part 2
10 You have put us to the test, God; as silver is purified by fire, so you have tested us. 11 You let us fall into a trap and placed heavy burdens on our backs.
12 You let our enemies trample us; we went through fire and flood, but now you have brought us to a place of safety.
13 I will bring burnt offerings to your house; I will offer you what I promised. 14 I will give you what I said I would when I was in trouble (…)
16 Come and listen, all who honour God, and I will tell you what he has done for me. 17 I cried to him for help; I praised him with songs.
18 If I had ignored my sins, the Lord would not have listened to me. 19 But God has indeed heard me; he has listened to my prayer.
20 I praise God, because he did not reject my prayer or keep back his constant love from me.
Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.
Free us, God of mercy, from all that keeps us from you; relieve the misery of the anxious and the ashamed and fill us with the hope of peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

11 The words I speak will not return to me without producing results. They will accomplish what I want them to. They will do exactly what I sent them to do. (Isaiah 55. 11; NIr. V)
The Lord stretched out his hand, touched my mouth and said, All ‘Behold, I have put my Word in your mouth. ’ Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do. All You shall not add to nor take away from it. Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit: All The Lord stretched out his hand, touched my mouth and said, ‘Behold, I have put my Word in your mouth. ’
(Time of quiet adoration)
CANTICLE Luke 1. 46 -55 (Good News Version) Christ opens to us his living word, and stand among us in his risen power.
My heart praises the Lord; my soul is glad because of God my Saviour, for he has remembered me, his lowly servant!
From now on all people will call me happy, because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me. His name is holy; from one generation to another he shows mercy to those who honour him.
He has stretched out his mighty arm and scattered the proud with all their plans. He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away with empty hands.
He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors, and has come to the help of his servant Israel.
He has remembered to show mercy to Abraham and to all his descendants forever!
Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.
Christ opens to us his living word, and stand among us in his risen power.
PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD -For the people met during the day and their needs -For the Church and her mission
For your people, that we may have opportunities to share your Word with those in our communities and around the world, that your Kingdom may grow here on earth.
(We offer ourselves to the Lord)
All Lord our God, strengthen us for your service: may the ears which have heard your Word be deaf to dispute; may the tongues which have read your Word be free from lies; may the eyes which have read your Word shine with love; and may we be refreshed with the fullness of your life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER As our Saviour taught us, so we pray with confidence:
(Modern Version) (Traditional Version) Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name; Your kingdom come; Your will be done; on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
SONG/HYMN Modern Song: ‘Your Word is true’ Trad. Hymn: ‘May the mind of Christ, my Saviour’
SENDING OUT Blessed are those who hear your Word, O Lord, and obey it: All because your words are Spirit and they are life.
Let us bless the Lord. All Thanks be to God.
