EPIPHANY Week 4 WEDNESDAY MORNING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Your light springs up for the righteous, All and all the peoples have seen your glory.

O Lord, open our lips, All and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God, king of the nations: All to you be praise and glory for ever.

As the Sun of Righteousness dawns in our hearts, All anoint our lips with the seal of your Spirit.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.

GOD’S MYSTERY revealed in Christ

PSALM Psalm 42 (Good News Translation)

As a deer longs for a stream of cool water, so I long for you, O God. 2 I thirst for you, the living God. When can I go and worship in your presence?

3 Day and night I cry, and tears are my only food; all the time my enemies ask me, “Where is your God? ”

4 My heart breaks when I remember the past, when I went with the crowds to the house of God and led them as they walked along, a happy crowd, singing and shouting praise to God.

5 Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my saviour and my God.

6 -7 Here in exile my heart is breaking, and so I turn my thoughts to him. He has sent waves of sorrow over my soul; chaos roars at me like a flood, like waterfalls thundering down to the Jordan, from Mount Hermon and Mount Mizar.

8 May the LORD show his constant love during the day, so that I may have a song at night, a prayer to the God of my life.

9 To God, my defender, I say, “Why have you forgotten me? Why must I go on suffering from the cruelty of my enemies? ” 10 I am crushed by their insults, as they keep on asking me, “Where is your God? ”

11 Why am I so sad? Why am I so troubled? I will put my hope in God, and once again I will praise him, my saviour and my God.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Come, creator Spirit, source of life; sustain us when our heart are heavy and our wells have run dry, for you are the Father’s gift, with him who is our living water, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

10 The disciples came to him. They asked, “Why do you use stories when you speak to the people? ” 11 He replied, “Because you have been given the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven. All Holy God, we see your glory in the face of Jesus Christ: may we reflect his life in words and deed, that all the world may know his power to change and save. We pray you in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Believing in the promises of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:
