Persona Esther is an 18 year old JC student in her final year. She has to take care of her baby brother at home. She has always been health conscious and prepares her own meals despite her busy schedule. She always wondered how she could save time while preparing her meals like salads. Final need statement: ‘I would need a product that will make preparing salads an easier process to clean, cut and it must be cheap as well. ’

Ideation Brainstorming and Rule breaker technique Brainstorming: Come up with as many ideas as we can with no limits We were able to come up with many ideas that we though was useful by just saying what is on our minds without worrying about the practicality of it first Many ideas where then found and we would sieve for the best ideas then

Ideation Rule breaker technique: List down the features of the product and do the opposite of it We first wrote down the function of the product like how it works and what consists of it We continued on by writing out the opposite of the functions and features This will make the product stand out from others making it more unique creating the selling point

Timer and handle salad spinner

Timer and handle salad spinner

User feedback/interview – Product 1 (Timer/Handle) 1. Good that it can be stored in

User feedback/interview – Product 1 (Timer/Handle) 1. Good that it can be stored in fridge 1. Do you like it/What do you like? 2. What do you not like? 3. How can it be better? Timer is good to know when you cut the vegetables Like that it is compact, a lot of functions. Seems like it is good for parties 2. Timer duration needs to be in hours and not prone to spoilage by water Product may be too big and hard to use for a single person 3. Needs a drain hole to stop the sauce from leaking downwards Come in various sizes Too boxy not so sharp, have a different shape like a round surface Make timer easy to maintain

Portable salad mixer

User feedback/interview – Product 2 (Tupperware) 1. Its good and usable 1. Do you like it/What do you like? 2. What do you not like? 3. How can it be better? The Tupperware is a good idea Good because it is able to drain off excess water in the salad 2. The height is the issue Only 1 function for a salad mixer The corners, sharp, as vegetables can get stuck at the corners, looks bulky (ergonomics) 3. The height needs to be appropriate, cannot hold some salads Combine it with Product 1 (Timer/Handle) Would be good to have handle to carry recess handle to keep/store, less sharp corners (more ergonomic)

Cylindrical salad mixer

Cylindrical salad mixer

User feedback/interview – Product 3 (Cylinder) Chosen idea 1. Like the concept that everything

User feedback/interview – Product 3 (Cylinder) Chosen idea 1. Like the concept that everything is inside and it wont drop everywhere 1. Do you like it/What do you like? It is small and very useful for 1 person The blade can be easily removed without taking some of the vegetables out 2. It cannot slice up hard vegetables like tomato, cucumbers, not evenly cut, may get 2. What do you not like? easily cut 3. How can it be better? Looks small and cramp. Might not be able to cut the vegetables Might be dangerous to wash 3. Not sure, but if it can slice more evenly it will be better There should be a drain hole for the excess water and the blade should be made out of stainless steel. Make it shorter Having a handle to carry it around to improve it and having the container transparent so to see how well the vegetables is mixed

User feedback • User Feedback/Interview • About the experience • What went well? • What could have been done better? • What will you do differently next time? • Was it a useful exercise? • About the feedback • What are the positive feedback? • What are the negative feedback? • What are the improvements to the concept? • Any new ideas?

User Feedback/Interview - Dominic The process of the interview went well since the interviewee

User Feedback/Interview - Dominic The process of the interview went well since the interviewee was my family member The questions could have been phrased better so that you could get specific answers from the interviewee I will explain the functions and features of the product better so that the interviewee will have a better understanding Yes it was a useful exercise as you are able to improve on the product through another person’s perspective Some of the positive feedbacks about the product are the features being very useful and convenient Some of the negative feedbacks about the product are the structures being too big and the features not being very useful We combined the features from other products to form a new product We have some new ideas such as the blade being able to bend and the salad mixer being able to act as a container for salad too.

User Feedback/Interview – Lup Huen The introduction of the product The diagrams The description

User Feedback/Interview – Lup Huen The introduction of the product The diagrams The description of the diagram Yes It is useful in helping us discover new functions It removes some rather good functions The concept was improved by adding more structure Lightweight material for the product

User Feedback/Interview - Joshua The things that went well was that the interviewee was

User Feedback/Interview - Joshua The things that went well was that the interviewee was cooperative when approached and she answered the answers we needed. The things that can be done better is need to prepare the interview questions properly and compile them properly and neatly. I would organise the interview questions properly so that is able to conduct a better interview and easier to compile after the interview This was a useful exercise as is exposes us to different kinds of people and how to approach them properly. The positive feed back was that we were polite when asking the interviewee questions The negative feedback was the poor organisation of the questions when it was being asked. The improvements to the concept was to combine all the different concepts to make the product better and useful When we combine the ideas we thought of new ideas for the product not to the needs but is also a convenient in other ways for the user.

User Feedback/Interview - Nicholas The answers from my interviewee was substantial and relative to

User Feedback/Interview - Nicholas The answers from my interviewee was substantial and relative to our product, the visualization of the product also made it easier The number of interviews we conducted could have been increased I will conduct the interview with more people for a more varied answer It was very useful as it showed the many points and functions that needed to be improved on and where we did wrong or did not think through

User Feedback/Interview - Nicholas Our product was unique and also cheap as well. It

User Feedback/Interview - Nicholas Our product was unique and also cheap as well. It has many useful functions that were helpful and wont make a mess when preparing salads Our products sizing and material was an issue as if it is too big It cant fit in the fridge. If the blades were not stainless steel it will rust when we are washing it. Some of the functions might be redundant as well Our ideas were improved with the help of our interviewees such as adding a drain hole for the salad mixer We thought about was to improve on our idea so we decided to co 0 mbine them picking the best features

Refinements We decided to pick out the features that are useful in each of

Refinements We decided to pick out the features that are useful in each of the product and combine them into one instead of just improving on one This was we will be able to get the best of each and not lose out on any good ideas that we had Rough sketch:

Work reflection After doing this project we leaned that many important factors come in when creating a new idea. It is more difficult than it seems to make a product for the public so EMPATHY is extremely important We also learned that we should always get feedback and constantly improve on our ideas Generating ideas is harder than we thought as some of our ideas may conflict with one another We learned to appreciate the work put in for a single product
