Subject Option Form Each student studies four optional subjects. Please number your option subjects in order of preference 1 to 10. Number ‘ 1’ should be your first choice. While every effort will be made to offer all students their subject preferences, due to resource limitations choices cannot be guaranteed.

Language Entry Requirements for Third Level Two languages (English + One other) required for the following colleges: – Trinity College – Dublin Institute of Technology – Dublin City University – University of Limerick – you can use a Pass in Irish of a European language – unless it is required for a particular course
Language Entry Requirements for Third Level • Cadetships in the Army, Army equitation, Air Corps and Naval Service. – 3 HC 3 and 3 OD 3 – Irish +English + European Language • For the Gardaí - two languages are required • A European Language is not required for entry to the Institutes of Technology, unless it is part of the area of study

• April/May: Entrance Assessment and Jacket fitting • June: Options, booklist and other information posted
Entrance Assessment • This will happen in April/May. • Students need 2 pens or pencils and a snack. • The purpose of this assessment is to gather further information on possible student needs and also to form mixed ability classes. • There is no need to worry about this and for once studying for it won’t help!
Verbal Classification The student is given a list of three words that are alike in some way. The student is asked to choose a word, from a selection of five words, that is also alike in the same way. Example: green blue red. Choices: color; crayon, paint, yellow, rainbow. Sentence Completion The student is given a sentence with a word left out and is asked to choose a word that makes the best sense in the sentence. Example: Apples on trees. Choices: fall; grow; show; bloom; spread. Verbal Analogies The student is given three words in dark type. The first two words go together. The third word goes with one of the answer choices. The student is asked to choose the word that goes with the third word the same way that the second word goes with the first. Example: new (is to) old : wet (is to) Choices: rain; drip; hot; sun; dry.
