Can the program be completed part-time? The nursing program cannot be completed on a part-time schedule. Students are admitted into a cohort and the courses must be completed in sequence. Students receive their schedule prior to each semester. This nursing program does not have an Evening Cohort 11/28/2020

Prerequisites: Required for Admission Completion of the Entrance Exam: ATI’s TEAS exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) Must achieve an adjusted individual total score of 60% or better. The TEAS test may be taken at any authorized testing center. Moraine Valley is an authorized testing center; however, the college only offers the test to individuals applying to this nursing program. Required Academic Standings All coursework (general education and nursing) needed for the Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing must be completed with a grade of “C” or better. General education courses do not expire. Moraine Valley policy, general education coursework may only be repeated twice without exceptions. 11/28/2020

Other Required General Education Courses The following general education courses also must be completed in order to be conferred the A. A. S. in nursing degree, but may be completed after acceptance to the program: BIO-180: completed with a grade of “C” or better, or must be taken with first semester nursing courses. It is highly recommended that you complete this course prior to entering the program; it is very difficult to carry with the nursing courses. BIO-181: completed with a grade of “C” or better, or must be taken with first or second semester nursing courses. It is highly recommended that you complete this course prior to entering the program, it is very difficult to carry with the nursing courses. Scheduling the TEAS Test at Moraine Valley Prior to taking TEAS the applicant must: Schedule a test date with the Testing Center by following the instructions on the blue TEAS Referral Card (This card is located in your admission packet). Pre-pay the testing fee at the Cashier’s Office located on the first floor of Building S, Room S 105 (The Cashier’s form is located in your admission packet). Payment should be made payable to Moraine Valley Community College by check, money order, cash, credit or debit cards. Preparing to take the TEAS Test MVCC Tutoring Passport (This will be in your nursing admission packet) The nursing program has made arrangements with the tutoring department on campus to offer tutoring for the students preparing to take the TEAS test. This does not mean the tutoring department will go through the TEAS test booklet cover-to-cover and teach you. To use this service you must: Practice using the TEAS test booklet. Time yourself, allowing one minute per question. Read the rationales on why your answer was not correct. This may be enough for you to keep practicing and answer those types of questions correctly. If you still don’t understand what you are doing wrong then use your tutoring passport. Make note of the questions you answered wrong and bring your questions, the test booklet and your original work to the tutoring center in Building A, Room A 181. Your original work on the questions you did not understand will help the tutor see where you need help. This information is on the TEAS Tutoring Passport, along with further instructions. Even though the TEAS Tutoring Passport lists general times of operation, it is advised that you call ahead to verify the times of operation before going to the tutoring center, and you MUST show your TEAS Tutoring Passport every time you go for tutoring, if you do not have the card with you, you will not receive tutoring. 11/28/2020

Your scheduled day for TEAS testing: Be on time. If you are late, the testing center will need to reschedule you. The computer is reserved for the length of the test: 209 minutes (3 hours and 29 minutes) Present your blue TEAS referral card and the Cashier’s form, stamped paid for the TEAS testing fee. Present a government issued photo ID or Moraine Valley photo ID. You will be assigned to a computer. Sign in and you will be registered to take the exam. Write down the ATI user ID and password you create. You will need it if you choose to re-test, or wish to access your test results in the future. What are Acceptable TEAS Test Scores? You must achieve an Adjusted Individual Total Score of 60% or higher in order to be eligible to apply to the nursing program. The areas of testing are written at a 12 th grade level and consist of: Reading and Comprehension Writing Science Math If you have questions about your scores, you may meet with an Academic Advisor to review the test results and discuss their implication. 11/28/2020

How many times may the TEAS test be taken? The TEAS test may be taken twice for each application cycle. When submitting your application, you choose which test result you want to attach. There must be 10 business days (Monday-Friday) between each test attempt. Remediation between test taking attempts is encouraged. Your test results are broken down into categories under each testing area. This will help you see where remediation is necessary. If you have questions about your results and/or remediation opportunities, please make an appointment with an advisor in Academic Advising. 11/28/2020

Adjusted Individual Total Score of 60% or better for your application to be considered. Test results must not be older than 12 months at the time of your application submission. Submitting a Complete Nursing Application Packet Acceptable Documents The following transcripts need to be on file in the Records Office, located on the first floor of Building S, Room S 111. (If transcripts were mailed to Records, it is YOUR responsibility to confirm that they were received and are on file). Official High School transcript or GED certificate The AAS degree in Nursing requires that either a high school transcript indicating graduation or a GED certificate be on file at the college. (If you have a high school transcripts from outside of the United States please meet with an academic advisor in S 201 for assistance, prior to applying) Official College transcripts Transcripts from other colleges must be submitted if you think you have completed general education courses that may fulfill admission or graduation requirements. A Transfer Credit Evaluation Request Form, (this will be in your nursing admission packet), must accompany the transcripts. Submitting a Complete Nursing Application Packet Applications are accepted from all qualified students, in-district and out of district. However, in-district students will be ranked and placed first. Residency Check: Permanent residents who submit all required documentation to the Records Office by the application deadline will be admitted in ranking score order before out-of-district applicants. To prove residency submit two of the following five documents: Copy of this year’s income tax return with the W-2 attached Copy/proof of automobile insurance (copy of the most current policy bill) Copy of most recent real estate tax bill Copy of current signed lease with name and phone number of the landlord Copy of current voter’s identification card If you feel you should be considered an in-district student and do not have two of the above documents, you may make an appointment with the Dean of Enrollment for a decision. Working in-district does not qualify as in-district for admission to a selective admissions program like nursing.

What if my rank score is the same as other students? ► A tie breaker is used if more than one person has the exact same rank score when placing the final seat in a cohort. If this is necessary, it will be based on the date/time the completed application packet was received in the Records Office. ► Note: If you turn in your application packet and then decide to retake the TEAS exam in an effort to increase your scores in math and science, the following will apply: the original date/time stamp will be crossed out and replaced with the new date/time. 11/28/2020

When will I know if I have been accepted into the Nursing Program? Applicants will be notified of the status of their application within three weeks following the program application deadline. Upon completion of the evaluation you will receive a printable certificate of completion. Print and take your certificate to Building B, room B 150 on the first floor. The receptionist will give your admission packet.
