EPIPHANY Week 3 MONDAY MORNING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Your light springs up for the righteous, All and all the peoples have seen your glory.

O Lord, open our lips, All and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God, king of the nations: All to you be praise and glory for ever.

From the rising of the sun to its setting: All your Name is proclaimed in all the world.

As the Sun of Righteousness dawns in our hearts, All anoint our lips with the seal of your Spirit.

That we may be witness to your Gospel, All and sing your praise in all the earth.

Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.

All As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever. Amen.

GOD’S MYSTERY revealed in Christ

PSALM Psalm 107 part 1 (Good News Translation)

“Give thanks to the LORD, because he is good; his love is eternal!” 2 Repeat these words in praise to the LORD, all you whom he has saved.

He has rescued you from your enemies 3 and has brought you back from foreign countries, from east and west, from north and south.

4 Some wandered in the trackless desert and could not find their way to a city to live in. 5 They were hungry and thirsty and had given up all hope.

6 Then in their trouble they called to the LORD, and he saved them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight road to a city where they could live.

8 They must thank the LORD for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. 9 He satisfies those who are thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

10 Some were living in gloom and darkness, prisoners suffering in chains, 11 because they had rebelled against the commands of Almighty God and had rejected his instructions.

12 They were worn out from hard work; they would fall down, and no one would help. 13 Then in their trouble they called to the LORD, and he saved them from their distress. 14 He brought them out of their gloom and darkness and broke their chains in pieces.

15 They must thank the LORD for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them. 16 He breaks down doors of bronze and smashes iron bars.

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

O living Christ, rescue us from foolish passion and still the storms of our self-will; and, as you are our anchor in this life, so bring us to the haven you have prepared for us; for your mercy’s sake. Amen.

16 Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. On the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue as he usually did. He stood up to read. 17 And the scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. Jesus unrolled it and found the right place. There it is written, 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to announce the good news to poor people. He has sent me to announce freedom for prisoners. He has sent me so that the blind will see again. He wants me to set free those who are treated badly. 19 And he has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free. ” (Isaiah 61. 1 -2) 20 Then Jesus rolled up the scroll. He gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were staring at him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this passage of Scripture is coming true as you listen. ” (Luke 4. 16 -21; NIr. V)

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, All let the whole earth tremble before him. Tell it out among the nations that the Lord is King, All tell out his salvation from day to day and his wonders among all peoples. All God of our salvation, help us to turn away from those habits which harm our bodies and poison our minds and to choose again your gift of life, revealed to us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER Believing in the promises of God, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:

Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
