EPIPHANY th 10 January MORNING PRAYER Together: Growing, Caring, Sharing in God’s Love

Your light springs up for the righteous, All and all the peoples have seen your glory.

O Lord, open our lips, All and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Blessed are you, Sovereign God, king of the nations: All to you be praise and glory for ever.

From the rising of the sun to its setting: All your Name is proclaimed in all the world.

As the Sun of Righteousness dawns in our hearts, All anoint our lips with the seal of your Spirit.

That we may be witness to your Gospel, All and sing your praise in all the earth.

The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.

GOD’S MYSTERY revealed in Christ

PSALM Psalm 147 part 1 (Good News Translation)

Praise the LORD! It is good to sing praise to our God; it is pleasant and right to praise him.

2 The LORD is restoring Jerusalem; he is bringing back the exiles. 3 He heals the broken-hearted and bandages their wounds.

4 He has decided the number of the stars and calls each one by name. 5 Great and mighty is our Lord; his wisdom cannot be measured.

6 He raises the humble, but crushes the wicked to the ground. 7 Sing hymns of praise to the LORD; play music on the harp to our God.

8 He spreads clouds over the sky; he provides rain for the earth and makes grass grow on the hills.

He gives animals their food and feeds the young ravens when they call. 9

Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Compassionate God, as you know each star you have created, so you know the secrets of every heart; in your loving mercy, bring to your table all who are fearful and broken, all who are wounded and needy, that our hungers may be satisfied in the city of your peace; through Jesus Christ who is our peace. Amen.

7 I now serve the good news because God gave me his grace. His power is at work in me. 8 I am by far the least important of all the Lord’s holy people. But he gave me the grace to preach to the Gentiles about the unlimited riches that Christ gives. 9 God told me to make clear to everyone how the mystery came about. In times past it was kept hidden in the mind of God, who created all things. 10 He wanted the rulers and authorities in the heavenly world to come to know his great wisdom. The church would make it known to them. (Eph 3. 7 -10; NIr. V)

O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, All let the whole earth tremble before him. Tell it out among the nations that the Lord is King, All tell out his salvation from day to day and his wonders among all peoples. CANTICLE Luke 1. 68 -69 (Good News Translation) This is the Christ, the Chosen of God, the one who will bring healing to the nations.

“Let us praise the Lord, the God of Israel! He has come to the help of his people and has set them free. He has provided for us a mighty Saviour, a descendant of his servant David.

He promised through his holy prophets long ago that he would save us from our enemies, from the power of all those who hate us.

He said he would show mercy to our ancestors and remember his sacred covenant.

With a solemn oath to our ancestor Abraham he promised to rescue us from our enemies and allow us to serve him without fear, so that we might be holy and righteous before him all the days of our life.

You, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High God. You will go ahead of the Lord to prepare his road for him, to tell his people that they will be saved by having their sins forgiven.

Our God is merciful and tender. He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us and to shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace.

This is the Christ, the Chosen of God, the one who will bring healing to the nations.
