(Time of quiet to be in presence of the Lord)
You laid the foundation of the earth, All and the heavens are the work of your hands.
SONG ‘A shroud of darkness’
Blessed are you, Sovereign God, creator of heaven and earth: All to you be praise and glory for ever.
Your living Word, eternal in heaven: All assumed the frailty of our mortal flesh.
May the light of your love be born in us, All to fill our hearts as we proclaim your praise.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit: All Blessed be God for ever!
The night has passed, and the day lies open before us; let us pray with one heart and mind.
All As we rejoice in the gift of this new day, so may the light of your presence, O God, set our hearts on fire with love for you; now and for ever. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD Made flesh to save us
PSALM Psalm 72 part 1 (Good News Translation)
Teach the king to judge with your righteousness, O God; share with him your own justice, 2 so that he will rule over your people with justice and govern the oppressed with righteousness.
3 May the land enjoy prosperity; may it experience righteousness. 4 May the king judge the poor fairly; may he help the needy and defeat their oppressors.
5 May your people worship you as long as the sun shines, as long as the moon gives light, for ages to come. 6 May the king be like rain on the fields, like showers falling on the land.
7 May righteousness flourish in his lifetime, and may prosperity last as long as the moon gives light.
Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen. Or: Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.
May your Kingdom come, O God, with deliverance for the needy, with peace for the righteous, with overflowing blessing for all nations, with glory, honour and praise for Christ, the only Saviour. Amen.

4 When the chosen time came, God sent his Son. A woman gave birth to him. He was born under the authority of the law. 5 He came to set free those who were under the authority of the law. He wanted us to be adopted as children with all the rights children have. (Galatians 4. 4 -5; NIr. V)
That which we heard, which we saw with our eyes and touched with our hands, All the Word of life which was from the beginning: we proclaim to you. The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining, All for our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Glory to the Father, by the Son, in the Holy Spirit: All That which we heard, which we saw with our eyes and touched with our hands, the Word of life which was from the beginning: we proclaim to you. (from 1 John 1. 1)
PRAYERS FOR THE WORLD -For our family, friends and all whom we love -For the day and its tasks
Jesus, you took on our human weakness: be the eyes of the blind, the strength of the weak and the friend of the lonely.
(We offer ourselves to the Lord)
All Lord Jesus, your birth at Bethlehem draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth; accept our heartfelt praise as we worship you, our Saviour and our eternal God. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER Rejoicing in the presence of God here among us, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray with confidence:
(Modern Version) (Traditional Version) Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name; Your kingdom come; Your will be done; on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
