Class Rank vs. GPA o Parent: What is the point of taking weighted classes if the universities look at unweighted core GPA? o Answer: Class rank is weighted n Universities and some scholarships look at both unweighted core course work and weighted class rank

Dual Enrollment o Credit transfer to in-state and some out-of-state colleges o Check out the Course Equivalency Guide on AZ Transfer to see how credit transfers o Dual Enrollment credit does not show up on Perry transcripts. Students must order their transcript from Chandler Gilbert CC

Letters Of Recommendation o o o Required for many universities and scholarships Follow the Process Form available on-line (helpful to include activities resume) Appointment with the counselor is recommended Proactive (some programs require letters before fall break e. g. Common App, Quest Bridge, Flinn, Military Academy - Teacher input) o What makes student stand apart o Allow your recommender 2 weeks to complete the letter (Letters will not be written over breaks or holidays, and does not count as the two week notice. )

Military Bound o Explore career options available through each branch o Military representatives scheduled in the cafeteria each month during lunch o Remember, both students and parents need to be involved in the process

College Admissions (In-State) Admissions have opened for ASU, NAU and UA Automatic In-state University requirements: o Have a 3. 0 un-weighted Core* GPA or better in the 16 core courses, and o No deficiencies in core courses (no “D”’s or “F”’s) There is a *Core GPA Calculator on the Career Center Website

In-State University Honors Program Most schools have higher admissions requirements: n ASU separate application priority (11/1) n NAU separate application priority (TBD) n UA separate application (12/1) With each application, be sure to include all additional items the school may need such as essays, letters of recommendation, activities resume, etc.

College Admissions (Out-of-State) o When to apply o Highly selective schools have earlier deadline (Early Action, Early Decision) o Please - HAVE AN IN-STATE BACKUP PLAN!!

Private & Out of State Colleges - WUE o WUE (pronounced “woo-wee”) is the Western Undergraduate Exchange, a program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Through WUE, students in western states may enroll in more than 140 two-year and four-year college institutions at a reduced tuition level: 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition. o Several School in the following states participate: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Federal Financial Aid o Apply AFTER October 1 st senior year. Update annually o Parents Financial Aid Night September 27 at Chandler Center for the Arts o Get help completing the FAFSA on College Goal Sunday, typically the Saturday and Sunday following Super Bowl. Dates will be announced

Scholarships o Perry High Career Center website o Separate application is not required for in-state merit scholarships o Check the website for additional scholarship opportunities o Apply early and apply often!

College Entrance Exams o Universities - SAT or ACT n Test scores may be sent to 4 colleges at no charge o Some Universities SAT Subject Tests n In-State Schools do not require them o Community College Placement Test n Asset or ACCUPLACER o Additional Math Placement Tests may be given by universities

Disability Resources The college disability service office coordinator/program advisor is responsible for evaluating and determining accommodation eligibility.
