Tournament Day… Partners • Coaches will evaluate and make best pairs with a goal of winning • Evaluation is based on: (practice effort, attitude, competitiveness, ability, cohesiveness, side preference). • In many cases, partners will switch between tournaments. Gear • sand socks (for hot/cold days) • sunglasses • hat/visor (optional) • shade • cooler (fluids, good food) • chair • towel • SUNSCREEN Rule Differences • Block counts as a touch. • Hand setting is called very tightly. • Cannot open-hand serve receive or open-hand a free ball unless absolutely perfect. • No tipping (rolls and knuckles are not tipping). • short court (26. 3 instead of 30) • outdoor ball (BRVA will practice with all three types). Other Important Differences • Coaches can only coach on side changes (multiples of 7 or 5) and timeouts. • Parents cannot coach, cannot talk to refs, cannot talk to kids, cannot yell "score, score“; basically can only cheer on their teams (heavily enforced at larger tournaments).
