College Applications
College Applications The Ontario College Application Services (OCAS) OCAS is the clearing house for Ontario College applications
College Application Requirements • Not required to have 6 Grade 12 courses • Required to have certain pre-requisites which may include Grade 11 or 12 U/M/C courses • Must check math requirements • Degree programs will require 6 Grade 12 U/M courses and specific requirements
College Application Process • Do not need a pin # to apply; OEN required • Online application: www. ontariocolleges. ca • $95 application fee • Max of 5 choices; up to 3 programs in one college
Timelines Application Due Date • February 1 st, 2018: Ø equal consideration date Ø Earliest release of offers by colleges Ø Earliest date by which a student can accept offer • May 1 st , 2018: final date by which an applicant must confirm an offer of admission to their chosen program • Mid-June, 2018: earliest date that colleges may require payment of tuition fees
Timelines Electronic Transmission Dates October 2 nd and November 20 th, 2017 • Demographics • Entire transcript (including sem 1 midterm marks) – Nov 20 th only • 2017 -2018 courses • Successful completion of community involvement • Successful completion of Literacy Test • OSSD eligibility

College Applicants Bachelor’s Degree Programs • 4 -year applied degrees = practice + theory (many programs co-op) • admission requirements are the same as university admission requirements - 6 Gr. 12 U/M courses • admission averages – sometimes lower than universities’

College Applicants Transition Program Ø All colleges offer one and two year programs in General Arts and Science Ø Students can apply to university or other college programs after taking these programs Ø Application to university based on college marks Ø Might be granted 1 or 2 equivalency credits in university (one year program) or a full year (two year program)

The Application Process The Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC)
The Application Process OUAC is the clearing house for all Ontario university applications
The Application Process · Fee: $150 for 3 universities or programs · Each additional choice: $50 (no limit) · Example: 2 programs at any one university = 2 choices · Limit of 3 choices at any one university including affiliated colleges
The Application Process OUAC provides grades to • Quebec Universities (Mc. Gill, Concordia, Bishop’s) Dalhousie King’s College U. B. C Victoria University Simon Fraser Calgary University of New Brunswick but it is not the clearing house for applications to those universities
Timelines
Timelines First electronic transmission date to OUAC November 1 st • Application for each applicant is created: ØDemographics ØCompleted Gr. 11 courses with final grades ØCompleted Gr. 12 courses with final grades (e. g. summer school) ØCurrent courses (both semesters) ØSuccessful completion of the Gr. 10 Literacy Test ØCompletion of Community Involvement hours • Semester 1 mid-term marks are not sent to the application centre • PIN for each applicant is created and sent to the school
Timelines Application Deadline: January 17 th, 2018 Recommended time for applications: Mid-December
Timelines February 6 th • Recommended last date to submit changes • Changes processed continuously – each university has a deadline
Timelines February 5 th • Second electronic transmission to OUAC • Final semester 1 marks • Semester 2 courses • Additional information on the transcript since the Nov. 4 th transmission (e. g. completion of community involvement, final grades for completed private school courses)
Timelines April 23 rd • Third electronic transmission to OUAC • Final semester 1 marks • Semester 2 mid-term grades • Additional information on the transcript since the Feb. 5 th transmission (e. g. completion of community involvement, final grades for completed private school courses)
Timelines July 2 nd • Next electronic transmission to OUAC • Final grades for semester 2 courses • Additional information on the transcript since the Apr. 23 rd transmission (e. g. completion of community involvement, successful completion of Literacy Test, receipt of OSSD, final grades for private school courses)
Timelines July 2 nd Note: This transmission is after the school is closed. Therefore all information must be on the transcript by June 22 nd (this includes final private school marks)
Offers of Admission Three Possible Admission Times 1. January/February 2. March/April 3. May
Offers of Admission End of January/Beginning of February • Conditional offer based on Gr. 11 and Gr. 12 courses already completed and 2017– 2018 courses in which student is enrolled • Very limited number of offers • No refusals at this time
Offers of Admission March/April • Conditional offer based on semester 1 final Gr. 12 marks final Gr. 11 marks in relevant courses and semester 2 courses in which student is enrolled • No refusals at this time
Offers of Admission May 29 th Last date for offers June 1 st Earliest date by which Ontario Universities may require a response
Conditional Offers • Student must maintain a certain average as specified in the offer and/or certain grade in prerequisite courses • August 27 th transmission – if student has not met all the requirements (conditions, diploma) offer will be rescinded.
Acceptances • Online • Must be received at OUAC by the deadline indicated • Offers may be rescinded if acceptances arrive after deadline
Private School Grades • FHCI must only record the final grade on the transcript (no mid-term grades) • It is the responsibility of the private school to inform OUAC that the student is taking the course AND send mid-term grades to OUAC • If the final grade is on the student’s transcript, it will be sent to OUAC with the next transmission Deadlines: Semester 1 – Feb 2 nd Semester 2 – June 22 nd Non-Semestered – June 22 nd
Private School Grades If the course is required for diploma requirements and is not on the transcript, the transcript will indicate no diploma even if the private school sends the grade to OUAC in July. The University may rescind the offer for failure to complete diploma requirements

Out-of Province Applications Canadian • Applications online - deadlines are student’s responsibility • English language Quebec universities (Mc. Gill, Concordia, Bishop’s), Dalhousie, University of King’s College, U. B. C. , Simon Fraser, Victoria, University of Calgary, UNB, St. Mary’s - apply after applying through OUAC - OUAC reference number required • All other Canadian Universities/Colleges - student must inform Guidance dept. • Note: each university has own application fee

Students with IEPs
Students with IEPs • All FHCI students with IEPs are in regular program • With the exception of Modified Admission (very rare), the application process and admission requirements are the same as for all other students
Students with IEPs Process To Seeking Services 1. Upon acceptance, students must contact Accessibility/Disability Center at the specific postsecondary institution to register (Do not wait until September)
Students with IEPs 2. Students must gather all medical and professional documentation required (i. e. psychological assessments, medical reports, IEPs) 3. Students must make an appointment for an Intake Interview
Students with IEPs 4. You will receive information and instructions to access eligible accommodation and services, which could include: - alternative test & examination arrangements (i. e. extra time, calculator, computer) - adaptive equipment & assistive devices - alternative format for printed materials
Students with IEPs FAQ’s Do I need an updated psychological assessment for university? Universities generally PREFER a recent assessment. If they require a more recent assessment after reviewing your documents, they will offer interim services until new assessments are complete. Assessments could be arranged through the universities or privately.
Students with IEPs FAQ’s Could my child receive an updated assessment in his/her Grade 12 year through TDSB? No. There is usually a long list of Grade 9 to 11 students awaiting psychological assessments, who need immediate support.
