Tenderfoot Handbook Congratulations! You have been chosen to take the first expedition to Alaska! You and four other explorers are packing to get ready for the learning expedition of a lifetime! Before you leave, you must meet with your team to plan. This handbook will be your guide as you plan your trip.
Why do you ask that you are called a “tenderfoot”? A tenderfoot is someone with little or no experience surviving in the wilds of Alaska. Your challenge is to survive the trek from Anchorage to Nome by dog sled. Good Luck!
Gather into groups of 5. Each person will take 30 seconds to introduce themselves to their team.
Members of your exploring group should decide which part of the handbook they wish to complete. A member can choose to be a Geographer, Cartographer, Biographer, Musher or Accountant.
Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences http: //bgfl. org n http: //infed. org/thinkers/gardner. htm n
Each member then goes to that station in the room and completes the questions in their section with the materials provided. You can discuss the answers with others at your station.
n n n When instructed, members then return to their exploring groups and share the information they have found with other group members. Students need to create a Layered Book for their handbook. At the end of this assignment, every group member should turn in a completed handbook. Each of the questions must be answered in complete sentences with correct capitalization, punctuation, spelling and grammar.
