How We Protect the Kansas River Who are we? What do we do and how do we use RECREATION to advocate for WATER QUALITY?
Friends of the Kaw is the only 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to protecting and preserving the Kansas River. OUR MISSION IS TO: Protect and preserve the Kansas River Advocate for the rehabilitation of the Kansas River’s environs, including its water quality and wildlife habitat. Promote compatible public recreational use and adequate public access
Friends of the Kaw supports the Kansas Riverkeeper, a non-governmental public advocate who holds the community accountable for the health of the Kansas River. The Kansas Riverkeeper…. Is the eyes, ears and voice of the Kansas River Is a leader, educator, investigator, media spokesperson and a scientist .
The Waterkeeper Alliance connects and supports local Waterkeeper programs to provide a voice for waterways and their communities worldwide.
How We Protect the Kansas River Who are we? What do we do and how do we use RECREATION to advocate for WATER QUALITY?
What do we do? We CLEAN UP the Kansas River Paddle Experience Program: Summer Program with Boys & Girls Club Kids About Water (KAWS Program: a five-lesson water quality issues and actions curriculum that targets students in grades 6 -12 – including Introduction to Watersheds and BMPs, field experience, understanding the data, and issues and actions. Educational Paddle Trip: Hands on River Education including watershed and stormwater pollution, water quality testing, aquatic life.
How do we work to protect the water quality in the Kansas River? WE EDUCATE WE PROMOTE RECREATION DEVELOP PUBLIC ACCESS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH KDWPT MONITOR, RESPOND AND MEDIATE SUSPECTED POLLUTION ADVOCATE to local communities, counties and the state to protect the Kansas River, which is a drinking water source for over 800, 000 Kansans!
