first reading 2 Samuel 1: 1, 17 -27 CEV David mourns for Saul and Jonathan. R: The first Reading for the 5 th Sunday after Pentecost is written in Chapter 1 of Second Samuel, beginning at Verse 1.

2 Samuel 1: 1, 17 -27 Saul was dead. 17 David sang a song in memory of Saul and Jonathan, 18 and he ordered his men to teach the song to everyone in Judah. He called it "The Song of the Bow, " and it can be found in The Book of Jashar.

2 Samuel 1: 1, 17 -27 This is the song: 19 Israel, your famous hero lies dead on the hills, and your mighty warriors have fallen! 20 Don't tell it in Gath or spread the news on the streets of Ashkelon. The godless Philistine women will be happy and jump for joy.

2 Samuel 1: 1, 17 -27 21 Don't let dew or rain fall on the hills of Gilboa. Don't let its fields grow offerings for God. There the warriors' shields were smeared with mud, and Saul's own shield was left unpolished. 22 The arrows of Jonathan struck, and warriors died. The sword of Saul cut the enemy apart.

2 Samuel 1: 1, 17 -27 23 It was easy to love Saul and Jonathan. Together in life, together in death, they were faster than eagles and stronger than lions. 24 Women of Israel, cry for Saul. He brought you fine red cloth and jewelry made of gold. 25 Our warriors have fallen in the heat of battle, and Jonathan lies dead on the hills of Gilboa.

2 Corinthians 8: 7 -15 7 You do everything better than anyone else. You have stronger faith. You speak better and know more. You are eager to give, and you love us better. Now you must give more generously than anyone else.

2 Corinthians 8: 7 -15 8 I am not ordering you to do this. I am simply testing how real your love is by comparing it with the concern that others have shown. 9 You know that our Lord Jesus Christ was kind enough to give up all his riches and become poor, so that you could become rich.

2 Corinthians 8: 7 -15 10 A year ago you were the first ones to give, and you gave because you wanted to. So listen to my advice. 11 I think you should finish what you started. If you give according to what you have, you will prove that you are as eager to give as you were to think about giving.

2 Corinthians 8: 7 -15 12 It doesn't matter how much you have. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you have. 13 I am not trying to make life easier for others by making life harder for you.

2 Corinthians 8: 7 -15 But it is only fair 14 for you to share with them when you have so much, and they have so little. Later, when they have more than enough, and you are in need, they can share with you.

gospel M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter 5 of the Gospel according to St Mark, beginning at Verse 21. C: ♫ Glory to you, O Lord. Mark 5: 21 -43 CEV Jesus restores a girl to life and heals a woman.

Mark 5: 21 -43 21 Once again Jesus got into the boat and crossed Lake Galilee. Then as he stood on the shore, a large crowd gathered around him. 22 The person in charge of the Jewish meeting place was also there. His name was Jairus, and when he saw Jesus, he went over to him. He knelt at Jesus' feet 23 and started begging him for help.

Mark 5: 21 -43 He said, "My daughter is about to die! Please come and touch her, so she will get well and live. " 24 Jesus went with Jairus. Many people followed along and kept crowding around.

Mark 5: 21 -43 25 In the crowd was a woman who had been bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had gone to many doctors, and they had not done anything except cause her a lot of pain. She had paid them all the money she had. But instead of getting better, she only got worse.

Mark 5: 21 -43 27 The woman had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him in the crowd and barely touched his clothes. 28 She had said to herself, "If I can just touch his clothes, I will get well. " 29 As soon as she touched them, her bleeding stopped, and she knew she was well.

Mark 5: 21 -43 30 At that moment Jesus felt power go out from him. He turned to the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes? " 31 His disciples said to him, "Look at all these people crowding around you! How can you ask who touched you? " 32 But Jesus turned to see who had touched him.

Mark 5: 21 -43 33 The woman knew what had happened to her. She came shaking with fear and knelt down in front of Jesus. Then she told him the whole story. 34 Jesus said to the woman, "You are now well because of your faith. May God give you peace! You are healed, and you will no longer be in pain. ”

Mark 5: 21 -43 35 While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from Jairus' home and said, "Your daughter has died! Why bother the teacher anymore? " 36 Jesus heard what they said, and he said to Jairus, "Don't worry. Just have faith!”

Mark 5: 21 -43 37 Jesus did not let anyone go with him except Peter and the two brothers, James and John. 38 They went home with Jairus and saw the people crying and making a lot of noise. 39 Then Jesus went inside and said to them, "Why are you crying and carrying on like this? The child isn't dead. She is just asleep. " 40 But the people laughed at him.

Mark 5: 21 -43 After Jesus had sent them all out of the house, he took the girl's father and mother and his three disciples and went to where she was. 41 -42 He took the twelve-year-old girl by the hand said, "Talitha, koum!" which means, "Little girl, get up!" The girl got right up and started walking around.

Mark 5: 21 -43 Everyone was greatly surprised. 43 But Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened. Then he said, "Give her something to eat. " This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: ♫ Praise to you, O Christ.
