On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. The crowds welcomed him by putting their cloaks on the ground as the donkey walked along. Other people cut branches from the trees around and spread them over the road. Everyone shouted, “Hosanna!” and “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. ”

You can read the whole story in Mark 11: 1 -11 Jesus Enters Jerusalem

You can read the whole story in Mark 11: 1 -11 Jesus Enters Jerusalem as a King Jesus and his followers were coming closer to Jerusalem. They came to the towns of Bethphage and Bethany near the Mount of Olives. There Jesus sent two of his followers. He said to them, “Go to the town you see there. When you enter it, you will find a colt tied which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here to me. If anyone asks you why you are doing this, tell him, ‘The Master needs the colt. He will send it back soon. ’” The followers went into the town. They found a colt tied in the street near the door of a house, and they untied it. Some people were standing there and asked, “What are you doing? Why are you untying that colt? ” The followers answered the way Jesus told them to answer. And the people let them take the colt.

The followers brought the colt to Jesus. They put their coats on the colt,

The followers brought the colt to Jesus. They put their coats on the colt, and Jesus sat on it. Many people spread their coats on the road. Others cut branches in the fields and spread the branches on the road. Some of the people were walking ahead of Jesus. Others were following him. All of them were shouting, “Praise God! God bless the One who comes in the name of the Lord! Psalm 118: 26 God bless the kingdom of our father David! That kingdom is coming! Praise to God in heaven!” Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the Temple. When he had looked at everything, and since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the 12 apostles.

Pecky was sad because this year he won’t be able to have one of the Palm Crosses that he remembers having in previous years. But he had a good idea! When he went out for a walk, he found two sticks, one longer than the other. He also found an elastic band that the postman had dropped!

What can you find to make a cross as Pecky did? Can you find

What can you find to make a cross as Pecky did? Can you find some sticks? (Check with an adult before you pick any up) Maybe you can find a long and a short pencil, or perhaps you could use some Lego or Duplo to make a cross. You might need to search for an elastic band, or a hair bobble or maybe some string to tie the two sticks together.

When we have finished, display your cross somewhere other people may see it. You could put it in a front window, in your front garden or in your bedroom window. Your cross is a symbol of the joy the crowds felt, and how we feel, when we think of Jesus as our King.

Now let us say a prayer to finish: True and humble king, hailed by the crowd as Messiah: grant us the faith to know you and love you, that we may be found beside you on the way of the cross, which is the path of glory. Amen.
