Choice To Learn All families are asked to complete the Choice to Learn Survey to indicate whether you would like your child to return to campus for face to face instruction or choose to remain online for virtual instruction: www. yisd. net/mychoice If you choose to return, VVECHS will begin face to face instruction on Oct. 19 th. Keep in mind that VVECHS does NOT have intersession so classes will continue online during the week of Oct. 12 th. If you choose to remain online, instruction will continue in the same format of the past eight weeks.

Monitoring and Screening

Monitoring and Screening for COVID-19 Before a child leaves home at the start of each day, a parent should answer the following self-screening questions for each child. • Has the child recently begun experiencing any of the COVID-19 symptoms in a way that is not normal for them? • Has the child had close contact in the past 14 days with an individual who is test-confirmed to have COVID-19? This would include someone living in the same household as the child or who regularly provides childcare.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Symptoms ▪ Cough ▪ Nausea or vomiting ▪ Chills ▪ A measured temperature greater than or equal to 100. 0℉ ▪ Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing ▪ Repeated shaking with chills ▪ Sore throat ▪ Loss of taste or smell ▪ Diarrhea ▪ Headache ▪ Fatigue ▪ Congestion or runny nose

High-Risk Close Contact • High-Risk Close Contact is defined as being less than 6 feet away from a test-confirmed positive case for equal to or longer than 15 minutes

Monitoring and Screening for COVID-19 By sending a child to school, the parent is attesting that the parent confidently answered "NO" to ALL of the COVID-19 screening questions for the child. A child who is sick with a fever, sore throat, or other COVID-19 symptom must stay home from school, and the parent must report the absence to the attendance clerk. Any child found to have symptoms at school will be isolated; a parent or guardian will be notified to pick up their student within one hour.

Campus Screening Procedures • Students will have their temperature taken when arriving on campus. • Students will also be given hand sanitizer as they enter the classroom.

Rapid Testing Procedures

Rapid Testing • • • Rapid testing will be made available weekly for all students. Rapid testing is not mandatory for students. Rapid testing is mandatory for all students participating in UIL sanctioned activities that require social group interactions (athletics, band, fine arts, etc. ). All students must have a parent permission slip on file and will be valid for the entire year.

Rapid Testing • • Campus administration will test all students and faculty every Monday of the week or first day of the week. Students should report to school between 8: 15 and 8: 40 if they wish to be tested. When students arrive on campus, they will go through an initial screening that will include having their temperature taken. Students who choose to be tested will be directed to the Spartan Lounge or Union for testing. Those who decline testing will be directed to their first period classroom.

PPE & Disinfecting

PPE Use • YISD will require face masks to be worn by all students in accordance with the Disease Activity Levels and Face Mask Protocol. • The district will provide a face mask for every student and employee. • Unless a medical accommodation has been granted which prevents the use of a mask, all students and staff members must wear masks. • Students will not be allowed to use bandanas as a face covering. • Gaiters are acceptable only during athletics.

PPE Classroom Use • Hand sanitizer will be available in every classroom as well as in other meeting and common areas. • Each classroom and educational space will have its own spray bottle and paper towel roll containing bleach/water solution. It will be filled daily, to be used by teachers and students to wipe down desks after every use. • At the end of class period, the student will wipe down their desk before they leave the classroom

General Disinfecting Process • Each campus has been provided with fogging equipment and antimicrobial disinfectant solution. • General cleaning and disinfecting will be completed daily by custodial staff using a 10%to 90% bleach/water solution to wipe down surfaces. • A deeper more thorough disinfecting to include the use of fogging equipment will be completed on Friday and possibly Saturdays and even Sundays depending on schedules.

Campus Operations

During the School Day Classrooms • Classrooms will be arranged so that all desks are socially distanced; • Desk dividers will be provided for each student desk; • Desks will be disinfected between class periods (Secondary) and throughout the day (Elementary).

During the School Day Restrooms • To avoid students congregating in restrooms between classes, we are asking students to use restrooms during class time in order to control the number of students going into the restroom facilities at one time. • Students will be reminded to wash hands frequently, preferably for a minimum of 20 seconds.

During the School Day Water Fountains • Water fountains will be closed. Students should bring their own water bottles to school. • A water filling station will be available for students to fill up their water bottles.

During the School Day Common Areas • To provide the safest environment possible in our common/collaborative spaces, the following guidelines will be implemented: • Spartan Lounge, Spartan Union and the patio areas will be closed before and after school. They will be available during the school day only when monitored by an adult.

During the School Day Hallways • Whenever possible, students will enter portables through the north side door and exit through the south side doors

During the School Day • Students should be reminded to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. The tissue should be thrown away and hands washed immediately. • Classroom materials should not be shared between students. Classroom textbook sets used at the secondary level will be sanitized between class periods (If applicable). • Classrooms will refrain from using communal supplies to include calculators, pencils, markers, etc.

Breakfast and Lunch

During the School Day Breakfast • Breakfast will continue to be served in the classroom allowing students to remain socially distant while eating at their desks. • Breakfast and lunch meals will be individually packaged. • To ensure social distancing and limit the number of people touching the individually packaged meals, teachers will be responsible for providing a meal to each student in the classroom. • Students should not share food or drinks. • Students will pick up their breakfast as they enter the campus

Lunch During the School Day • • All school campuses will be closed for students for lunch Students may also bring their own lunch, but they will not have access to microwaves or other appliances for reheating. No food sharing will be allowed. Outside food vendors and outside food deliveries will not be allowed. • Students will remain in their third period class for lunch. • Classes will be combined for lunch (while maintaining social distancing) to allow for teachers to have lunch.

Entry/Exit Activity

Entry Procedures • Students are to be dropped off in the lower parking lot. • The student drop-off is reserved only for those picking up breakfast/lunch from our cafeteria • Students are to walk up to our school on the sidewalk while remaining six feet apart from other students • Students will enter the campus between the Spartan Union and Building 10.

Entry Procedures • As students enter the campus, they will pick up breakfast and have their temperature taken • Once cleared, they are to report to the first period classroom immediately and eat breakfast at their desk. Hand sanitizer will be provided in the classroom

After School Exit and Activities

After School • For now, all extra-curricular activities and club meetings will be held virtually • All students will be asked to leave the campus as soon as school is over. • Parents are to park in the lower parking lot and wait for their students to arrive at their cars.

After School • To avoid students congregating, it is important that parents arrive by 3: 55 to pick up their child. Students will be released classroom by classroom between 3: 55 and 4: 05. • For safety reasons, it is important that all students be off campus by 4: 15 unless they are remaining for tutoring. If remaining for tutoring, parents need to pick up their child as soon as tutoring is scheduled to end. • Those leaving by school bus will board the buses as normal in thebus zone.

Athletics

Transportation

Transportation Procedures • Students will have temperature taken before being allowed on the bus. • Face masks are required by all students while on the bus. • Seats will be marked off with tape to avoid children sitting too close to each other. • Except for children from the same household, children will be seated one per row on alternating sides of the bus. • Rosters will be kept of every student transported so that contact tracing can be performed if needed.

Visitors to Campus

Visitor’s Procedures • Anyone without a clear purpose for visiting the campus should be denied entry. • The visitor must show proper ID to the camera and staff should verify if the visitor has an acceptable face mask before entering the building. a. Acceptable forms of ID include any state-issued or Federal-issued ID. Passports are also accepted. b. Foreign and employment IDs are unacceptable. c. Federal-issued military IDs are acceptable.

Visitor’s Procedures • Admittance to the school should be granted for one of the following purposes: a. Appointment with school personnel b. Dropping off an item for a student or a teacher use, e. g. backpack. c. Vendor or contract visits (i. e. UPS, USPS, etc. ) should be scheduled on Friday when fewer people are on campus.

Visitor’s Procedures • All visitors must complete the YISD COVID-19 screening protocol. • All visitors must wear a face mask in order to gain entrance into the building. • No volunteers will be permitted until further notice.
