Immersion • Valle Verde is committed to providing all students a true college experience to the highest degree possible. • -Actual college classes • -Actual college activities • -Actual college campus interaction • Students can earn up to 21 hours through dual credit classes (One year of Pre-Cal, one year of Calculus, one year of US History, one year of English, ). • Many, however, earn just 12 hours. The remaining 48 hours are earned at EPCC.

Parents and College • Professors in college do not talk to parents about college grades due to FERPA. • VVECHS students will be treated as college students. • Parents are strongly encouraged to discuss any issue with high school teachers.

Summer Session • Summer Session is MANDATORY for all students unless a student is attending an educational camp. • Summer vacation is not acceptable excuse for missing summer school • Students will attend summer session one only. • Failure to attend will result in student being released from VVECHS

2020 -2021 Bell Schedule

On-Line Learning • All Students start school on August 17 online • Students remain online until at least September 8 • While online, students will “attend” school online. • It will be different than the spring. • Students will have to log on at specific times and watch classes as if they were in the classroom. • Students must dress appropriately • Attendance will be taken and grades will be given

Face-To-Face Learning • When it is safe, students will be allowed the option to attend school on-campus or remain online for the reminder of the fall semester. • If you choose to attend school face to face, you will need to be in school by 8: 45 AM for health checks • All YISD High Schools will: • Have a closed campus for lunch • Not allow food deliveries • Have students eat lunch in their classrooms • Require masks to be worn

Face-To-Face Vs. Online • All VVECHS families should have called 434 -0280 to indicate which type of learning you will choose once schools open their campuses. • If you have not done so, please do so tonight. • If you have done so, but wish to change your answer, please call our school secretary, Mrs. Elicerio, at 4341505 so she can update your preference. • Once schools open for face to face and you begin attending school physically or online, you will not be able to chance your preference until the end of the nine weeks.

i. Pads • i. Pads will be provided to each student to use while attending VVECHS. • Student and Parents will be required to sign a contract assuming responsibility for the i. Pad in order to receive one. • i. Pad maintenance fee of $25 covers all instances of screen breaks (waived in 2020/21) • i. Pads will be given out on Aug. 3 (see website for schedule)

Learning Contract • To attend all parent meetings • To ensure my family has met the 3 hours of parent engagement commitment per year (not the same as parent volunteering) • To Read the school/district handbook and follow the policies and guidelines set by VVECHS and Ysleta ISD. Please make special note of: Dress Code, I. D. ’s/Bus Passes, Electronic Device/Cell Phone Policy, Dropping classes at EPCC. • To understand that a VVECHS student may NOT drop from VVECHS Program mid year. • To understand that if your child drops or is removed from VVECHS or is referred to another school for any reason, your child will not be allowed to return to VVECHS.

Learning Contract • To respond promptly to all school communications, including phone messages, email, permission slips, etc. • To support your child’s education by arriving to school on time, ensuring that your child is attending his/her college class every time it meets. • To communicate with your child to make sure he/she is completing all homework assignments on time, communicate with teacher’s on academic progress, and attends tutoring as needed. • To ensure that my child attends the mandatory high school and college summer classes unless the child is attending an educational workshop/camp that has been verified and approved by the administration.

Learning Contract • To pick up all required high school and college textbooks by the 4 th week of class. Failure to do so will result in the student having to purchase their own college textbooks without any reimbursement for VVECCHS, YISD, or EPCC. • To pay for and take the appropriate mandatory AP exam during 9 th, 10 th, and 12 th grade years. • To ensure that my child completes 20 hours of community service yearly and is involved in at least one club or organization at VVECHS. • To understand that my child may not participate in any sports, fine arts, or other co/extracurricular activities at any other high school.

House Bill 5 • House Bill 5 is the law that governs the required graduation requirements. • YISD students will go beyond House Bill 5 minimum requirements. • YISD students will continue a 4 x 4 curriculum (4 credits each of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies) with additional requirements as defined by both the district and the state. • YISD students will graduate with a minimum of 1 Endorsement

House Bill 5 What Are Additional Requirements? • Physical Education – One Credit • Languages Other Than English - Two Credits in the same language or Computer Programming Language • Fine Arts – One Credit • Health – 1/2 Credit • Speech – 1/2 Credit • Electives – Five Credits

House Bill 5 What Are The Endorsement Choices? Arts and Humanities Business and Industry Multidisciplinary Public Service Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math At VVECHS, you will not have to pick an endorsement. It will be determined by your major.

House Bill 5 Can You Change Majors/Endorsements? • Yes and No • Students will be able to change majors which may result in a change in endorsements with parent permission during 9 th and 10 th grades • Students will be able to change majors during 11 th and 12 th grades with parent permission ONLY if: a) b) it does not result in a change in endorsement, or the student is able to complete the requirements of the new endorsement before graduation

House Bill 5 Students can also earn Performance Acknowledgements • A student may earn a performance acknowledgement for outstanding performance: In a dual credit course In bilingualism and biliteracy On an Advanced Placement test On the Pre-Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), or the American College Test (ACT) • For earning a state-based, nationally, or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license. • •
