THIS PRESENTATION WILL: OBJECTIVES • EXPLORE THE PROCESS OF NURSES WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH THE LIBRARY TO CREATE AN INTERPROFESSIONAL WORKING GROUP BENEFITING THE MATERNAL CHILD HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND THE ENTIRE HOSPITAL. • DISCUSS THE RESULTS OF A NEEDS ASSESSMENT. • DISCUSS THE CHALLENGES PRESENTED WHEN ATTEMPTING TO IMPLEMENT SPECIFIC PATIENT EDUCATION BEST PRACTICES. • SHARE SOME LESSONS LEARNED DURING THE EXPERIENCE.

PEN’S OBJECTIVES 1. To develop guidelines for the preparation of patient education materials to meet the specific needs of the JGH. These guidelines will be made into a Handbook that can be accessed by all JGH staff online. 2. a) To assess the current status of patient education materials at the JGH. b) To create a centralized patient education materials database. 3. To act as a resource in the preparation of patient education materials at the JGH. 4. To promote the JGH Patient and Family Resource Centre and increase awareness of the PEN Working Group’s activities as described above.
