Meet the Teacher • I have taught Kindergarten for 18 years and 2 nd for two years. (Kindergarten has my heart!) • I love teaching reading. * Bachelor’s in Early Childhood & Elementary Education * Master’s in Reading • This will be my 20 th year at Doral Academy. • I have 14 year old twin boys!

Attendance Policy v If your child is absent, please send a written note or email within 48 hours of your child returning to school. v An absence will be excused if it is one of the following: death in the family, illness, doctor’s appointment. v Please note, a vacation or business trip is NOT an excused absence. v Students will be referred to administration for excessive unexcused tardies. v 5‐ 7‐ 10 rule! v 5 unexcused tardies: verbal warning to parents v 7 unexcused tardies: written letter v 10 unexcused tardies: referral

Uniforms: v All students must wear the Doral Academy Uniform every day, unless we

(Jean Day, Dress down days, Field Trips, etc. ) Friday/ field trip t‐shirts can be purchased through our online store. v Jean Day serves as a fundraiser for our school. Students can wear jeans with their Doral Academy T‐Shirt for $1. 00. (A one time payment of $40 for the entire year can be made through our online store. ) v Boys ‐ Hair should be cut neatly and above the collar. v Students must wear closed toe shoes, and they should be all black. (including soles and laces) v Also, please make sure to send a complete change of clothes (shirt, bottom, undergarment and socks) to school in a Zip‐loc with your child’s name on it on the first day of school. It does not have to be a uniform. This is stored in the classroom for accidents.

Student UNIFORMS Tops: • Polo shirts must be red, white or navy blue and embroidered with the school name and logo. • All shirts must be tucked inside pants at all times. Bottoms: • Pants/skorts may be navy blue or khaki. • Belts must be worn at all times. They must be plain, black, and fastened securely at waist level. Shoes: • Black closed toe shoes or sneakers must be worn. • No sandals, crocs, boots, heels or platform shoes are allowed. Sweaters: • Navy blue uniform sweatshirts and sweaters with embroidered school logo may be worn.

Medication: v Teachers/Teacher Assistants are not allowed to administer medication. v Effective this year, Nurse Cathy will not be able to administer any over the counter medication, unless the child has a chronic condition and has a completed the "Authorization for Medication” and/or “Physician’s Referral for In-School Nursing Services” form on file. Parents will need to have the forms filled out and signed by the pediatrician. These forms can conveniently be found on our website www. dac. doralacademy. org under the “PARENTS” tab, then “medical forms”.

DAC Folders v Your child’s Doral Folder is their “Home Learning” folder. v This folder must be checked and SIGNED EVERYDAY. v Their daily behavior, important papers and communication from school are sent home in this folder. v This folder will also be used to send their home-learning for the week. v On Fridays all class work that was not collected will be sent home in the folder. Please remove the work and keep the work for your records/ memories.

(Parents will only be allowed to walk in with their child for the first two days for a few minutes. ) v Parents must park in the Carlos Albizu parking lot. Gates will open at 8: 00 am. v Neither students nor parents are permitted to stand in the hallways. v All students arriving before 8: 00 am must be enrolled in morning care (see Ms. Patty in the Pre-K office). v Classroom doors open at 8: 10 am v Instruction begins promptly at 8: 30 am v Tardy passes are given by the office staff in the lobby at 8: 30 am

Afternoon Dismissal v Parents must park in the Carlos Albizu parking lot and walk to the front of the school to pick up their child. v Dismissal is at 2: 00 pm until 2: 15 pm. After 2: 15, you will be charged a late pick‐up fee of $1. 00 per minute. (Ex: If you are 45 minutes late, you will be charged $45) v If someone is picking up your child and your teacher is not familiar with that person, your teacher will not release your child to that person. The person must be authorized on the emergency contact card prior to picking up your child and must bring picture identification. v Your child notifying your teacher verbally will not suffice. v You may send an e‐mail or call the school and they will notify your child’s teacher in the event that it is a last minute thing.

Please print home-learning packets weekly. v Packets are collected Fridays. v The Reading Log and I-Ready program is part of your child’s Home Learning. (This must be completed daily. ) v Home Learning will be considered incomplete if the Reading Log is not completed. This will result in your child receiving an incomplete for their Home Learning.
