HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS üEarn 24 credits üPass the Algebra 1 End of Course Exam üPass FSA Reading Assessment üMaintain a 2. 0 Unweighted G. P. A. üComplete a Distance Learning Class (FLVS) üComplete a Community Service Project

REQUIRED COURSES ü English 4 credits ü Mathematics 4 credits (Algebra 1, Geometry, plus two additional math courses) ü Science 3 credits Biology, and two additional Science classes: Physical Science, Chemistry, Anatomy, Environmental Science, Physics or Bioscience ü Social Studies (World History, U. S. History, Government/Economics) 3 credits ü Personal Fitness +. 5 credit of additional PE course 1 credit ü Fine Arts 1 credit (Art, Drama, Music, Dance, Comp. Graph Arts, Photography, etc. ) ü General Electives (Including FLVS class) 16 credits

5 Point Rule • Must have at least 5 points in last half of the year to pass the class. • 1 st 2 nd 3 rd 4 th • B C D F • Final Grade F

Forgiveness • If you fail a required class, you must retake the course. If you receive a D, you may take the course again forgiveness. • If upon retaking the class, you receive a C or better, the prior F or D is forgiven so that it does not affect your GPA. The result is your GPA improves.

NCAA Athletes!!!!!!! • If you are an athlete and are planning to attend college on a sport related scholarship and fail a course…………. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE NIGHT SCHOOL COURSES TO MAKE UP THAT CREDIT! • The NCAA does not accept night school credits. • The only way that you can re-take a course is through FLVS or retake that course with your day school schedule.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT ü ALL students must complete a Community Service Project before graduation from a Miami-Dade County Public School ü The project is to be completed between 9 th and 12 th Grade ü 10 minimum hours are required. ü The following programs require a specific number: ü Florida Academic Scholars Award – 100 hrs. ü Florida Academic Medallion Award – 75 hrs. ü Florida Vocational Gold Seal Award – 30 hrs. ü Community Service Projects must be planned as organized to address real problems or needs in the community ü Obtain your counselor’s signature before beginning ü Pick up a form in the Guidance Office - Room 826 voluntary efforts designed

SCHOLAR DIPLOMA DESIGNATION In addition to meeting the standard high school diploma requirements a student must: ü Earn 1 credit in Algebra II ü Earn 1 credit in statistics or an equally rigorous mathematics course ü Pass the Geometry, Biology, and US History EOC ü Earn 1 credit in chemistry or physics ü Earn 1 credit in a course equally rigorous to chemistry or physics ü Earn 2 credits in the same sequential world language ü Earn at least 1 credit in AP, IB, AICE or a dual enrollment course A student is exempt from the Biology I or U. S. History assessment if the student is enrolled in an AP, IB or AICE Biology I or U. S. History course and the student ü • Takes the respective AP, IB or AICE assessment; and ü • Earns the minimum score to earn college credit.
