The 3 Uses of telew (teleo) in terms of God’s Workings or Doings Gen 2: 1 -2 And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all His work He had made. Jn 19: 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit. Rev 10: 7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel when he is about to sound, then is finished the mystery of God, according to the good tidings which he declared to his servants the prophets. Haggai ~520 -516 BC active as a prophet • By 536 BC the Jewish

Haggai ~520 -516 BC active as a prophet • By 536 BC the Jewish remnant was back in the land of Judea. • The altar is rebuilt first to restore sacrifices • The foundation of the temple was laid but 16 years passed w/o any work on the temple itself. • Consequence: the people had not prospered. • Rebuilding the temple was essential to hold the people together, through whom the Messiah would come. • God spoke through Haggai in four speeches 1. Rebuke for indifference to God / selfish concerns / results (1: 111) 2. The glory of the new temple / greater glory future temple (2: 19) 3. Completion of the temple will bring blessings (2: 10 -19) 4. Promise of salvation / Messiah renewed; exalting of Zerubbabel as Messianic hope would be preserved in him (2: 20 -23)

Haggai ~520 -516 BC active as a prophet The glory of the new temple

Haggai ~520 -516 BC active as a prophet The glory of the new temple / greater glory future temple (2: 1 -9) • GLORY was not something that man could impart to the temple no matter how much gold or precious stones adorned it. Those are things of value only to man in the temporal sense. • Glory was and is something that is of Divine origin, that only God can impart according to His principles for acting (righteousness, holiness, justice, etc. ). It was seen only when God allowed it to be seen by the people as a sign of His presence and greatness (transfiguration). • The glory of the “future temple” was/is a glory of/from the spiritual, of that which transcends the provincial (space) and the transient (time). It is a glory we cannot see yet while residing as flesh and blood, but most assuredly it is a quality like brightest light, white and blinding to the physical eye, as we can gather from the glory descending on Solomon’s temple, the transfiguration, the angel at the tomb, Paul on the road to Damascus, and the radiance of Moses’ face.

Haggai: A New Order is Approaching Hag 2: 6 -9 For thus saith Jehovah

Haggai: A New Order is Approaching Hag 2: 6 -9 For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; and I will shake all nations; and the precious things of all nations shall come; and I will fill this house with glory, saith Jehovah of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith Jehovah of hosts. The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, saith Jehovah of hosts; and in this place will I give peace, saith Jehovah of hosts. • Shaking of heavens/nations, of all things made, is divine activity; divine interaction w/ the temporal (all things made) as a judgment is made against nations and a new (spiritual) order is set in place. • Heb 12: 26 -29 whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. Therefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, hereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe…

Haggai ~520 -516 BC Hag 2: 21 -23 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah,

Haggai ~520 -516 BC Hag 2: 21 -23 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth; and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother. In that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith Jehovah, and will make thee as a signet; for I have chosen thee, saith Jehovah of hosts. • Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel (Matt 1: 12 -16) • The seed of David would be perpetuated through Zerubbabel, a descendent of David through Coniah; though NOT a king he was raised up as governor; Zech 4: 9 honors Zerubbabel as it was his hand that laid and finished the foundation of the temple. • The language, like Daniel chs 2, 7, 9, concerns the destruction of earthly powers/kingdoms and the establishment of Yahweh’s. This and Joel 2 suggest the destruction of Satan’s influence was far more grand devastating in the spiritual world than we can realize.

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC Zechariah’s work was to revive faith in the Messianic

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC Zechariah’s work was to revive faith in the Messianic hope and speak of those things connected to His coming. • Like Revelation, the language is apokalupto, uncovering or ‘revealing’. • Like John, God through Zechariah deals with the present conditions of that time and the future of God’s people. • Zechariah focused on the future of heathen nations and the Jewish people (like John focused on Rome, Satan, their influences) and the kingdom of the Messiah. • Through figures, imagery, symbolism and different presentations of the Messiah, Zechariah restated characteristics of the Messiah and communicated to the Jews that He would NOT be restoring the old Davidic physical political regime. • The dominion and kingdom would be a new (kind) of kingdom, a spiritual kingdom, “not of this world”. • He reminds the Jewish consciousness that the Messiah must suffer to achieve God’s purpose, and the conflict the new kingdom would win.

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC Zechariah falls into three divisions: I. Eight (8) night

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC Zechariah falls into three divisions: I. Eight (8) night visions either Messianic or related to the Messiah and His coming (1: 7 -6: 15) II. Fasting and Messianic Prophecies (Ch. 7 -8) III. World powers and the kingdom of God (Ch. 9 -14) • Visions and apocalyptic symbolism are part of the many ways God spoke to the fathers through the prophets (Heb 1: 1) • Angels and visions occupy a large portion of the text. Messianic prophecies are interspersed among passages that refer to the building of the physical temple structure, making it challenging to separate the prophet’s contemporary from the prophet’s future. • Zechariah is the longest and most obscure of all the minor prophets; the most difficult to understand in the OT. • Zechariah is outstanding for apocalyptic symbolism in prophecy of the Messiah and His work.

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC First 8 chapters are 8 visions, messages, exhortations, consolation…

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC First 8 chapters are 8 visions, messages, exhortations, consolation… opening with a call for repentance (1: 1 -6) Eight (8) night visions either Messianic or related to the Messiah and His coming (1: 7 -6: 15); all occurred in a single night. 1) The rider and horsemen among the myrtle trees (1: 7 -17) 2) The 4 horns and smiths/craftsmen (1: 18 -21) 3) The man w/ the measuring line (Ch. 2) 4) Trial and acquittal of the high priest Joshua (Ch. 3) 5) The golden lampstand two olive trees (Ch. 4) 6) The flying roll (5: 1 -4) 7) The woman in the ephah (5: 5 -11) 8) The four chariots and horses of various colors (6: 1 -8)

Zechariah - Vision 1 – Rider & Horsemen (1: 7 -17) • Prophet addresses

Zechariah - Vision 1 – Rider & Horsemen (1: 7 -17) • Prophet addresses the rider of the red horse, “What are these? ” (not who but ‘what’, what do the signify? ) • The angel explains that the riders are servants of Yahweh who ‘patrol’ and keep watch over the earth and nations; the earth (nations) are still and at rest. • The angel petitions Yahweh in question form “how long? ” before the people’s misery ends; “threescore and ten years” is the period of captivity as foretold by Jeremiah (25: 11 -12; 29: 10). • The answer (v. 14) is one of comfort and assurance, that He is already working to avenge their plight as He is sore displeased w/ the nations who are ‘at ease’ (self-sufficiency, prideful, secure). • His house will be built (v. 16) and “a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem”, indicating the space, dimension, area that it was to occupy was already determined along with its general layout and arrangment. • Threefold blessing ensues: (1) cities shall be properous (2) He shall comfort Zion, the mount of His presence among His people and (3) He will choose Jerusalem as the capital of His people. • The plan of Yahweh is presented as a long-range plan; His eye is on both His people and the heathen nations and He will deal with both.

Zechariah - Vision 2 – Four Horns (1: 18 -21) • Horns are symbolic

Zechariah - Vision 2 – Four Horns (1: 18 -21) • Horns are symbolic of power/strength, usually temporal (Amos 6: 13; Dan 7: 7 -8, 24) • The horns are the hostile powers that scattered Judah, Israel, Jerusalem • They may correlate to the 4 kingdoms depicted in Daniel by the statue and the 4 beasts from the sea; it is safest to interpret the four horns as symbolic of all the world powers who scattered God’s people (Amos 9: 9) since 4 correlates to ends of the earth, directions, winds, etc. • 4 smiths or craftsmen are shown to Zechariah and he inquires what they come to do (the purpose or meaning of them); the reply is as the horns scattered and humiliated Judah so now the smiths had come to terrify the powers; skilled users of instruments serve as instruments in God’s hands. • The powers would be destroyed by instruments raised by Yahweh for this very purpose; the power of their own destruction rests in the nation’s that destroy (Hag 2: 6 -7, 21 -22; ‘shake the nations’) • The point is that Yahweh is the judge of nations and He renders judgment against nations through other nations according to His principles. This is no less true today; His holiness & righteousness can abide only so much.

Zechariah - Vision 3 – The Measuring Line (Ch. 2) • The young man

Zechariah - Vision 3 – The Measuring Line (Ch. 2) • The young man with the measuring line is about to measure Jerusalem • Interpreting angel speaks to the young man “saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, by reason of the multitude of men and cattle therein. For I, saith Jehovah, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and I will be the glory in the midst of her. Zech 2: 4 -5 • the young man represents the Jews who have returned and think only of physical Jerusalem, w/ little concept of what God was working; the Jerusalem (& Zion) of God’s plan and working were not physical so as to be measured, walled, and arranged by man. Gal 4: 26 the Jerusalem that is above • The angel interprets to the man that Yahweh says that He will be the walls (of fire) around His people, His Jerusalem that is inhabited w/o walls; He will also be the glory that is in her midst. • The Jerusalem that Yahweh is concerning Himself with is not the physical and the present one but the spiritual and future one (from their perspective); “wall of fire” appears only here in all of scripture, and is used as characteristic of what God will be with regard to His Jerusalem, His people; protecting those w/in, destroying those w/out.

Zechariah - Vision 3 – The Measuring Line (Ch. 2) • 2: 6 -13

Zechariah - Vision 3 – The Measuring Line (Ch. 2) • 2: 6 -13 the vision is followed by a call from Yahweh to His people to flee out of the world and come rejoicing to spiritual Zion • Zech 2: 10 -11 Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith Jehovah. And many nations shall join themselves to Jehovah in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts has sent me unto thee. • Repeating and restating of Isaiah 2: 2 -4 and Micah 4: 1 -3, 6 -8 (~755 B. C. ) • Isa 2: 2 -4 And it shall come to pass in the latter days, that the mountain of Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem. And he will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples…

Zech Ch. 3 - Vision 4 – Cleansing of the Priesthood; Sign of the

Zech Ch. 3 - Vision 4 – Cleansing of the Priesthood; Sign of the Branch • Zec 3: 1 -2 And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of Jehovah, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary. And Jehovah said unto Satan, Jehovah rebuke thee, O Satan; yea, Jehovah that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? …Joshua was clothed with filthy garments…Take the filthy garments from off him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with rich apparel. • The priest interceded and represented the people; the cleansing of the high priest is a cleansing also of the people • v. 8 “for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch. ” [Is 4: 2; 11: 1]; as the Branch of Yahweh and David He would be both Divine and human. • Zec 3: 9 For, behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua; upon one stone are seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. • Some argue the stone is the Messiah; some argue the kingdom; unclear if the 7 eyes are watching upon the stone or the stone itself has 7 eyes upon it; watchful oversight of the covenant, kingdom? Or all-seeing Messiah? ?

Zech Ch. 4 - Vision 5 – The Lampstand & 2 Olive Trees •

Zech Ch. 4 - Vision 5 – The Lampstand & 2 Olive Trees • Zech 4: 2 -3 And he said to me, What do you see? And I said, I see, and behold, a lampstand, all of it gold, and a bowl on its top, and its seven lamps on it, and seven spouts each to the seven lamps on its top; and two olive trees are beside it, one on the right of the bowl, and one on its left. • Zec 4: 6 Then he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, ' says the LORD of hosts. [oil is the Spirit? Lampstand = church? ] • The tasks before Zerubbabel were enormous; this vision was to convey to him through Zechariah encouragement that he would, by God’s Spirit, complete the work and set the final stone (capstone). • v. 7 seemingly insurmountable obstacles would be removed (mountain becomes a plain) “by My Spirit”. • v. 9 – his hands shall also finish it • Remember Hag 2: 23 that Zerubbabel was made “as a signet” by Yahweh, a symbol of Him who was to come (Mt 1: 12 -13, lineage) • Literary foreshadowing of the Branch; His work obstructed but accomplished according to all that Yahweh planned (Jn 19: 28).

Zech Ch. 4 - Vision 5 – The Lampstand & 2 Olive Trees •

Zech Ch. 4 - Vision 5 – The Lampstand & 2 Olive Trees • Zec 4: 10 -14 …these seven will be glad when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel…these are the eyes of the LORD which range to and fro throughout the earth. Then I said to him, "What are these two olive trees on the right of the lampstand on its left? " …Then he said, "These are the two anointed ones who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth. “ • By Divine oversight and careful watchfulness will Zerubbabel go about completing the work God intends for him to carry out; for Zerubbabel to complete the planned work is to prepare the people and place for the coming Messiah. (Zech 3: 8 -9) • The 7 (complete number) eyes symbolize the complete all-seeing (allknowing) nature of Yahweh, the perfection of His watchfulness over His purpose and the carrying out of His plan as stated in 3: 8, “I will bring forth my servant the Branch. ” (see II Chron 16: 9; Prov 15: 3) • 2 Ch 16: 9 "For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His. • Pro 15: 3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.

“ • Only two persons (offices) were anointed: high priest and king • High priest: Ex 30: 30; Lev 8: 30; 21: 10 Religious / Spiritual • King: I Sam 10: 1; II Kings 9: 1 -6 Civil / Temporal (Rule) • In ‘standing by the Lord’ they serve and do His bidding according to His Will • In immediate context of that time, Zerubbabel and Joshua would have been the anointed ones (chosen/selected) to do the Lord’s bidding • In context of the whole, the two olives trees feeding into one bowl that distributed to the 7 lamps may well represent the combining of those two offices into one under the Messiah. • Trees are from and by God, not man, so the provisioning is of Divine origin

Zech Ch. 5 - Vision 6 – The Flying [Sc]roll • Zech 5: 1

Zech Ch. 5 - Vision 6 – The Flying [Sc]roll • Zech 5: 1 -3 Then I lifted up my eyes again and looked, and behold, there was a flying scroll. And he said to me, "What do you see? " And I answered, "I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits and its width ten cubits. " Then he said to me, "This is the curse that is going forth over the face of the whole land; surely everyone who steals will be purged away according to the writing on one side, and everyone who swears will be purged away according to the writing on the other side. • The size of the roll is given; 20 x 10 cubits are the dimensions of the porch before Solomon’s Temple (I Ki 6: 3) and the size of the Holy Place. • This suggests the roll demands holiness; Divine call for holiness • Stealing and false swearing (lies) are called out as sins under Divine curse that all who lie or steal will be purged/cut off. • May indicate the mainstream sins of the people of the time or may indicate those sins indicative of fundamental flaws in any heart, as every sin is ultimately a form of a lie (non-truth). • That the scroll is flying indicates divine origin and power.

Zech Ch. 5 - Vision 7 – The Ephah & the Woman • Zec

Zech Ch. 5 - Vision 7 – The Ephah & the Woman • Zec 5: 6 -10 I said, "What is it? " And he said, "This is the ephah going forth. " Again he said, "This is their appearance in all the land (and behold, a lead cover was lifted up); and this is a woman sitting inside the ephah. " Then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he threw her down into the middle of the ephah and cast the lead weight on its opening. Then I lifted up my eyes and looked, and there two women were coming out with the wind in their wings; and they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah between the earth and the heavens. I said to the angel who was speaking with me, "Where are they taking the ephah? " Then he said to me, "To build a temple for her in the land of Shinar; and when it is prepared, she will be set there on her own pedestal. " • Opposite of the scroll is this vision of wickedness (personified); She is carried out of the land of Yahweh’s people to a land of her own; Zech 3: 9 spoke of removing iniquity from the land in a single day. • Shinar (Gen 10: 8 ff; 11: 4) and Babel represent rebellion against God, the land being a world apart from Yahweh and His people. • Is 11: 10 -11 …in that day the nations will resort to the root of Jesse…Then it will happen on that day that the Lord Will again recover the second time with His hand The remnant of His people, who will remain, from…Shinar… [2 nd remnant = those summoned out of wickedness in the Messianic dispensation]

 • • Zech Ch. 6 - Vision 8 – Four Chariots Zech 6:

• • Zech Ch. 6 - Vision 8 – Four Chariots Zech 6: 1 -5 …four chariots were coming forth from between the two mountains; and the mountains were bronze mountains. With the first chariot were red horses, with the second chariot black horses, with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot strong dappled horses. Then I spoke and said to the angel who was speaking with me, "What are these, my lord? " The angel replied to me, "These are the four spirits of heaven, going forth after standing before the Lord of all the earth, … Jer 49: 36; 51: 1; Dan 7: 2 – scattering winds, destroying wind, winds of upheaval that break upon society (wind can also mean spirit) The similarity between the colors of the horses here and those in Rev 6 is noteworthy but difficulties abound if their meaning is to be extrapolated from Rev 6 and applied to the time of Zechariah. It may be that war (bloodshed) followed by death, grief, famine, conquering and victory (white) fit w/ these horses in Zech 6, but definitive significance within a specific time is difficult to identify.

Zech Ch. 6 - Vision 8 – Four Chariots • Zech 6: 1 -5

Zech Ch. 6 - Vision 8 – Four Chariots • Zech 6: 1 -5 …four chariots were coming forth… • The most reliable and safest interpretation may be supported by Ezek 14: 21; 5: 16 -17, that these chariots/horses represent Yahweh’s judgments against nations as they chose immoral behavior, amassed national sin, & pursued roads to conflict, with the results being judgments (consequences) in the form of famines, pestilence, and sword. • The angel explained (6: 5) that these are the four winds (spirits) which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth; Jer 49: 36 and 51: 1 help to explain by the effects caused by sin and unrighteousness (social upheaval, scattering, destruction, etc. ) [Hag 2: 6] • The two spirits or messengers sent to the north country is said to have “quieted My spirit in the north conutry”.

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC 1) The rider and horsemen among the myrtle trees

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC 1) The rider and horsemen among the myrtle trees (1: 7 -17) • Comfort, assurance, His house would be built 2) The 4 horns and smiths/craftsmen (1: 18 -21) • Yahweh judges nations, instrument & time are His choice 3) The man w/ the measuring line (Ch. 2) • Spiritual Jerusalem; Yahweh will protect 4) Trial and acquittal of the high priest Joshua (Ch. 3) • Yahweh will bring forth His servant; iniquity to be removed 5) The golden lampstand two olive trees (Ch. 4) • God determines according to His plan; priest/king to be one 6) The flying roll (5: 1 -4) • Righteousness, law, truth are from God; divine call to be holy

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC 7) The woman in the ephah (5: 5 -11)

Zechariah ~518 - ? BC 7) The woman in the ephah (5: 5 -11) • Wickedness removed; people of Yahweh to be separate and apart from wickedness. God’s people called out of wickedness. 8) The four chariots and horses of various colors (6: 1 -8) • God judges nations in His time and according to His own choosing; His eyes are on His people AND on the disobedient in all nations, and He is working with regard to BOTH.

Zech Ch. 6: 9 -15 - Symbolic Crowning of High Priest • gold and

Zech Ch. 6: 9 -15 - Symbolic Crowning of High Priest • gold and silver was taken from 3 men from Babylon as contributions toward the temple; a two-tiered crown (priest-king) of silver and gold was made, as Zech. was instructed, and Joshua the high priest was crowned, symbolic of the crowning of the messiah. High Priests wore a turban, not a crown. • Zec 6: 12 -15 and speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: and he shall grow up out of his place; and he shall build the temple of Jehovah; even he shall build the temple of Jehovah; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne; and the counsel of peace shall be between them both. And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of Jehovah. And they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of Jehovah; and ye shall know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of Jehovah your God. • 5 Messianic truths are spoken in this symbolic dual-crowning

Zech 6: 9 -15 - 5 Messianic Truths in the Symbolic Crowning 1. He

Zech 6: 9 -15 - 5 Messianic Truths in the Symbolic Crowning 1. He shall grow up out of His place: • a root out of dry ground - Isa. 53: 2; • raise up the tent of David - Amos 9: 11 • Lowly origin, exalted, lifted up – Isa 52: 13; Ps 2 2. He shall build the temple of Yahweh, even He shall build the temple of Yahweh (when God repeats something, it is most serious emphasis) • Zerubbabel’s hand had laid the foundation and would lay the capstone of the physical temple, so the physical is not the point of this prophecy. (4: 9) • The Branch shall build the spiritual temple, the church comprised of those who have been transferred from the k. of darkness (Shinar) into His marvelous k. of light; separated from wickedness, made of “living stones” (1 Pet 2: 5), • “a holy temple in the Lord…a habitation of God in the Spirit” (Eph 2: 21) • “whose house we are” Heb 3: 6

Zech 6: 9 -15 - 5 Messianic Truths in the Symbolic Crowning 3. AND

Zech 6: 9 -15 - 5 Messianic Truths in the Symbolic Crowning 3. AND He shall bear the glory: • He will be glorified w/ honor, majesty, power – Dan 7: 13 -14 • “and He shall sit and rule upon His throne (2 Sam 7: 11 -14; Isa 9: 6 -7; Ps 2: 6 -7; 110: 1; 1 Ki 2: 12; 1 Chron 29: 23) 4. AND He shall be a priest upon His throne • Only Melchizedek had been a king/priest (Gen 14: 18) • Yahweh swore that His king would be “a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek (Ps 110: 4); the Branch would fulfill this vow. Heb 5: 9; 7: 1 -3 • He was raised to sit on David’s throne (spiritual) – Acts 2: 29 -31 • He sat down at the right hand of God – Heb 1: 3 • He serves as the great king-priest – Rev 3: 21 [dominion, intercedes] • That the Anointed One/Messiah/Christ fulfilled this prophecy and reigns over His dominion as king and intercedes for us as priest refutes any view that He is to return to earth to rule. [rule what? ? ] • Ps 110: 1 Heb 1: 13; I Cor 15: 24 -28; Rev 20: 11 -15

Zech 6: 9 -15 - 5 Messianic Truths in the Symbolic Crowning 5. AND

Zech 6: 9 -15 - 5 Messianic Truths in the Symbolic Crowning 5. AND the counsel of peace shall be between them both (both king and high priest as one in the Branch) • peace provided by the Branch for His people (obedient ones) • Is 9: 6 -7; Micah 5: 5; Ps 85: 8 • Peace preached by His apostles – Eph 2: 14, 17; 2 Cor 5: 18; Col 1: 22 • Peace between God and man through the Branch – Rom 5: 9 -11 ff • Word-search “peace” in the Psalms and prophets, then the NT! 1. He shall grow up out of His place: 2. He shall build the temple of Yahweh, even He shall build the temple of Yahweh 3. And He shall bear the glory 4. And He shall be a priest upon His throne 5. And the counsel of peace shall be between them both They that are far off (Gentiles, “Edom”/the world) “build IN the temple” when each hears and obeys (Acts 2); added to the body to build IN…

Zech 7 -8 Universal Influence of Messiah’s Rule • Zec 8: 3, 8 Thus

Zech 7 -8 Universal Influence of Messiah’s Rule • Zec 8: 3, 8 Thus saith Jehovah: I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called The city of truth; and the mountain of Jehovah of hosts, The holy mountain. . . [8] and I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness. • Gal 4: 26, 28 - But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother… Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. • Zec 8: 22 -23 Yea, many peoples and strong nations [Gentiles/world] shall come to seek Jehovah of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat the favor of Jehovah…Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: In those days it shall come to pass, that ten [complete number] men shall take hold, out of all the languages of the nations, they shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with ya’ll [pl], for we have heard that God is with you. • Many Gentiles became Jews in the two centuries leading up to the Messiah, but this prophecy is wider; “in those days” what shall come (came) to pass will be the Messiah’s ambassadors, beginning from Jerusalem taking the gospel to all the world (Acts 8: 1 -4; 17: 6)

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 7 Points to be

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 7 Points to be made from Ch. 9 -14 1. Entrance of Yahweh’s Lowly King into Zion (on a donkey); Zech 9: 1 -10 • Zec 9: 9 -11 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee; he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of a donkey (Mt 21: 1 -11)…and he shall speak peace unto the nations [ethnos][Is 9: 6 -7]: and his dominion shall be from sea to sea [Ps 2: 89], and from the River to the ends of the earth. As for thee also, because of the blood of thy covenant I have set free thy prisoners from the pit wherein is no water [salvation to spiritual captives]. • The cutting off of chariot, horse, bow, etc. signified that His kingdom would not be of this world, nor would the warfare of His kingdom be fought with temporal weapons. Eph 6: 10 -18

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 2. Symbolic selling of

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 2. Symbolic selling of the Shepherd; Zech 11: 4 -14 • Zech 10 appears to be a review of Israel’s past, a history of their turning away. It may also be a foretelling of what lay ahead between ~400 BC and the Messiah’s coming. Jews fought many battles from 400 BC up to ~63 BC when Rome entered Judea and annexed it by 37 BC. Malachi speaks of the moral decay of the people ~400 years before Christ, offering lame and sick animals for sacrifice; hearts far away, sacrifices being a burden and no ‘reward’ visible for it. • The people’s departure from the prophet’s words (Yahweh’s) elicited a symbolic request for compensation; the insult to Yahweh is that they insult Him w/ the amount due for a gored/damaged slave (Ex 21: 32). Mt 27: 3 -10 records fulfillment of the physical betrayal. • Zec 11: 12 -13 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my hire; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my hire thirty pieces of silver. And Jehovah said unto me, Cast it unto the potter, the goodly price that I was prized at by them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them unto the potter, in the house of Jehovah.

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 3. New Jerusalem [church]

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 3. New Jerusalem [church] under Siege - Zech 12: 1 -10 • Ch. 12 -14 open with Yahweh’s word regarding the spiritual Israel, the new “Israel of God” (Gal 6: 16). • “In that day” [nearly always Messianic] occurs 15 x in Ch. 12 -14. • Zec 12: 9 -10 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born. [Jn 19: 36 -37] 4. “they shall look unto Me” [Yahweh]… in looking physically upon the Son whom they physically pierced, Yahweh and Christ are here presented as One, God manifested in the flesh [Is 7: 14]. • To deny that Jesus the Son was also God is to deny the prophets and prophecies; explains why Jews in 2 nd-3 rd c. A. D. re-wrote select verses

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 5. Fountain Opened for

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 5. Fountain Opened for Sin and Uncleanness - Zech 13: 1 -6 • Zec 13: 1 In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, for sin and for uncleanness. • Reminder: the selling of the shepherd, looking upon Him whom they pierced, opening a fountain for sin, and smiting Yahweh’s Shepherd, three of these verses are quoted in the NT applied to Christ. “In that day” refers to the Messianic period, therefore in that time was all prophecy fulfilled, and truth completely revealed by the HS. • • In this work He was “to finish/put an end to transgression”, “make an end (seal up) to sins”, “make reconciliation for iniquity”, and “seal up the vision and prophecy” (Dan 9: 24); this and the prophecy of Zechariah were fulfilled by and during the Messianic period. Fountain was for cleansing, and the word usage indicates an abundance of forgiveness available for many/all to remove sin (not possible by animal sacrifices). Fountain is public in nature, for many.

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 6. The Smitten Shepherd

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 6. The Smitten Shepherd and Scattered Sheep - Zech 13: 7 -9 • Zec 13: 7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow [neighbor], saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones. • He whom God calls His neighbor or fellow cannot be only a mere mortal man; this is one who shares and participates in His divine nature; this is Yahweh attesting to the fact that the Messiah is of, from Him as the Holy One of the Elohim. • Jesus quoted Zechariah in Mt 26: 31/Mk 14: 27 applying it to His crucifixion. This validates Zech as being the word of God as Immanuel quotes Himself ~ 500 years after Zechariah. When God quotes scripture He is repeating Himself at a later time to reveal its application and meaning. • That His sheep or His people are refined “as through fire” attests to His love for His children, to discipline, build, strengthen, and bring us to our best to offer ourselves to Him.

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 7. Refining Fire and

Zech Ch. 9 -14 Messiah & Kingdom Besieged & Victorious 7. Refining Fire and Yahweh Fighting with/for His people - Zech 14 • Zechariah 14 is a glimpse to Revelation; the conflict between the saints (sanctified) of His kingdom and the forces of Satan. • The residue of the people (remnant) shall NOT be cut off from the city (the church; Gal 4: 26) • That this is a spiritual conflict should be plain from Zech 14: 8 “And it shall come to pass in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem. . ” • These are the waters of Ezek 47: 1 -12 and Jn 7: 37 -39. • Those that fight against God are ‘dead’ while they live (14: 12) “their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. “ This is spiritual death, cut off from life in Christ. • The faithful remnant shall worship God (vv. 16 -17) and “in that day” in the spiritual city everything shall be holy unto God (vv. 20 -21).
