WHAT IS GONORRHEA? What is Gonorrhea? Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Gonorrhea is caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae a type of bacteria. Anyone who has any type of unprotected sex with someone who has it can catch this disease. The infection can be spread by contact with the anus, mouth, penis, and eyes. The bacteria grows in warm moist areas of the body. In women, the bacteria tends to grow in the reproductive tract which includes the uterus and cervix.

The very first effective treatment for Gonorrhea didn’t come until the 20 th century. Penicillin was the antibiotic that helped cure the disease until around the 1970’s. Over time the disease has been known as the “super bug” because it’s getting stronger and less resistant.

The purpose and goal of this law is to make sure the patients get proper and valuable follow up treatment and their sexual partners are found and treated to help prevent further infection. -

Having multiple sex partners 2. Not using a condom during sex 3. Having a partner who has a previous STD infection Gonorrhea can still be transferred if a 4. Abusing Alcohol or illegal substances. man does not ejaculate onto the other person. It can also be spread to a baby during childbirth if a mother has not been treated for it. It can increase the risk of complications if left untreated and passing the infection to another person. Gram Stain tests used to diagnose include: cervical gram stain in women, and gram stain of urethral discharge in men, and joint gram fluid. � Cultures used: throat swab culture, rectal culture, and blood cultures. � DNA tests are the most modern technology used. They are quicker than culture tests. They can be performed by urine tests. �

One important detail to lower a persons risk of getting the disease is using a condom every time a person has sexual intercourse. Also in order for a condom to prevent diseases it has to be used properly. To prevent infection is to know so GET TESTED!
