Surely the Presence of the Lord 328 WORDS: Lanny Wolfe, 1977 Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place; I can feel his mighty power and his grace. © 1977 Lanny Wolfe Music (A div. of Pathway Press)
I can hear the brush of angels’ wings, I see glory on each face; surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.
*Call to Worship One: Jesus Christ calls all believers to receive the Good News of grace and mercy. Many: Jesus Christ calls us to have faith, receive healing and know abundance of life. One: Let us enter into loving relationship with Christ our Lord – not in our own strength, but in the power of the Holy Spirit. Many: Come, let us praise the Lord. Amen.
Jesus Is All the World to Me WORDS: Will L. Thompson, 1904 1. Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all; 469
he is my strength from day to day, without him I would fall.
When I am sad, to him I go, no other one can cheer me so; when I am sad, he makes me glad, he’s my friend.
2. Jesus is all the world to me, my friend in trials sore; I go to him for blessings, and he gives them o’er and o’er.
He sends the sunshine and the rain, he sends the harvest’s golden grain; sunshine and rain, harvest of grain, he’s my friend.
3. Jesus is all the world to me, and true to him I’ll be; O how could I this friend deny, when he’s so true to me?
Following him I know I’m right, he watches o’er me day and night; following him by day and night, he’s my friend.
4. Jesus is all the world to me, I want no better friend; I trust him now, I’ll trust him when life’s fleeting days shall end.
Beautiful life with such a friend, beautiful life that has no end; eternal life, eternal joy, he’s my friend.
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Mark 9: 23 b-24 Jesus said, “Everything is possible for one who believes. ” I do believe! Help me overcome my unbelief!
Scripture Reading Mark 9: 35 -37 35 He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all. ” 36 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me. ”

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Glory Be to the Father WORDS: Lesser Doxology, 3 rd-4 th cent. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; 70
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Offering Our Gifts to God
*Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow 94 WORDS: Thomas Ken, 1674; adapt. by Gilbert H. Vieira, 1978 Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below: Alleluia!
Praise God, the source of all our gifts! Praise Jesus Christ, whose power uplifts! Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit! Alleluia!
Breathe on Me, Breath of God WORDS: Edwin Hatch, 1878 (Jn. 20: 22) 1. Breathe on me, Breath of God, fill me with life anew, 420
that I may love what thou dost love, and do what thou wouldst do.
2. Breathe on me, Breath of God, until my heart is pure,
until with thee I will one will, to do and to endure.
3. Breathe on me, Breath of God, till I am wholly thine,
till all this earthly part of me glows with thy fire divine.
4. Breathe on me, Breath of God, so shall I never die,
but live with thee the perfect life of thine eternity.
Scripture Reading Mark 9: 42 -48 42 “If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and you were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell, 48 where their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.
The Message
Response to the Word
I Am Thine, O Lord WORDS: Fanny J. Crosby, 1875 (Heb. 10: 22) 1. I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice, and it told thy love to me; 419
but I long to rise in the arms of faith and be closer drawn to thee.
Refrain Draw me nearer, (nearer, ) nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, blessed Lord, to thy precious bleeding side.
2. Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord, by the power of grace divine;
let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, and my will be lost in thine.
Refrain Draw me nearer, (nearer, ) nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, blessed Lord, to thy precious bleeding side.
3. O the pure delight of a single hour that before thy throne I spend,
when I kneel in prayer, and with thee, my God, I commune as friend with friend!
Refrain Draw me nearer, (nearer, ) nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, blessed Lord, to thy precious bleeding side.
4. There are depths of love that I cannot know till I cross the narrow sea;
there are heights of joy that I may not reach till I rest in peace with thee.
Refrain Draw me nearer, (nearer, ) nearer, blessed Lord, to the cross where thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, blessed Lord, to thy precious bleeding side.
*Blessing Mark 9: 50 b Have salt among yourselves and be at peace with one another.
