The story The scene takes place in Park Güell, in Barcelona. David, Jack and Sara are waiting for José. Jack says that he is a fantastic person and that he can’t wait to see him again. Sara adds that he was more cheerful and extrovert than the others in the Summer Camp, while David remembers that he was different than Asim, who was so shy at first, but as Jack says, really good at chess and using the computer. While they are chatting, Sara thinks she sees José and points to a boy with a guitar and brown bag. It isn’t José, because the boy is taller. It could be the boy standing by the fountain, but that one is thinner than José. And the boy Emi is barking at is older. Finally, José arrives, greets his friends, exclaiming Hombres!(Guys!) and he apologizes for being late and explains that he was hungry and had gone to eat something.

Yes, he was always more cheerful and more extrovert than everybody else at the Camp. Not like Asim. Do you remember what he was like when he arrived at the Camp? Shyer than everybody. But more intelligent! He was brilliant at playing chess and using computers. Look! There’s José! Over there with the guitar and the brown bag! That’s not José! He’s taller than José. OK, I can see him now! Where? Over there, standing near the dragon fountain. That’s not him! José isn’t as thin as that boy. OK! I give up! Woof! Emi! Don’t you start too! That’s not José. He’s older than José, too. Hombres! José! Where were you? I’m sorry guys! I was a bit hungry so… You went to get some food!

The story José asks his friends what they think of Barcelona and they start

The story José asks his friends what they think of Barcelona and they start a conversation about the pros and cons of each of the three cities they have visited so far. According to Jack, Barcelona is boring, the girls are prettier in Paris and the shops are nicer in Rome. According to Sara, the Romans are friendlier than the Parisians. According to David, the food in Rome is better and the museums in Paris are cheaper. José says Barcelona is smaller than Rome or Paris, but that it has a stronger football team and it is cleaner, safer and closer to the sea.

He thinks Barcelona is more boring than Paris or Rome! Sara: Oh, take no notice of Jack! He just thought the girls were prettier in Paris and the shops were better in Rome. José: Huh! And what do you two think? Sara: Well, I think the people were friendlier in Rome than they were in Paris. David: … and the food was better in Rome but the museums were cheaper in Paris. José: Well perhaps Barcelona is smaller than Rome or Paris, but the football team is better - and the city is cleaner and safer and of course nearer the sea! Let’s take a look at the city.

Audio script C 2. 7 Chris: Lisa: Chris: Lisa: OK, what do you think – Devon or Cornwall? Which one is better? Oh no, not again! We went to the seaside last year! So have you got any ideas? What about a city? Maybe. Well, I think visiting a European city is more interesting than the seaside. Don’t forget the kids. They prefer playing on the beach. Yeah, they think sightseeing is more boring than the beach. But there are lots of fantastic places in Europe for kids. You’re right. But what about the journey? I don’t know. By car or by plane. What do you think? Well travelling by car is worse than travelling by plane. Remember the kids always get travel sick. How about travelling by boat? It’s cheaper than travelling by plane. Planes are so expensive now. Yes, that’s true… but… how about travelling by train? It’s fun and it’s not as expensive as travelling by plane and there’s no travel sickness! Great idea! Let’s go by train.
