Protagonist- main character(s) in the story They can be good or bad guys in the story. Character
Antagonist The person or force that opposes the protagonist. Protagonist can oppose themselves (person vs. self) Antagonist/Protagonist
Flat character (minor character who may not seem realistic) One or two sides to their personality Flat Character

Irony Dramatic Irony- a character say something, but the reader knows more than the character does about the other characters or events Situational Irony- occurs when an event occurs that is the opposite of what is expected by the character Verbal irony- opposite of what is said is actually meant

The writer selects from the point of view from which to tell the story that best suits his/her intentions as a writer First person- “I” is the central character and tells his or her story Second person- story is told from “you” perspective Point of View
Third Person Omniscient- “he” or “she” of the story. We know what is going on in all of the character’s heads Limited Omniscient- “he” or “she” of the story. We only know what is going on in some of the character’s head. Other characters we do not know what they are thinking Objective- “he” or “she” of the story. We do not know what any of the characters are thinking Point of view
