SKIMMER DRAWING INSTRUCTIONS PLTW Design and Modeling
This is what your drawing should look like when you are finished.
What you will need: ½ folder, Engineer Drawing, Pencil, Ruler
Step 1: Make a dash 7 in/175 mm up the folder on both sides
Step 2: Draw a line connecting the two dashes (This will be called the reference line. 7 in.
Now we will start to draw the Main Body panel
Step 3: Measure 11 in. /280 mm from the left bottom corner of the folder
Step 4: Draw a dash 11 in. /280 mm from the left side of your reference line
Step 5: Draw a 4 in. /100 mm line connecting those two dashes 4 in. /100 mm
Step 6: Draw a dash 4 in. /100 mm up the left side of the folder, starting at the bottom left corner.
Step 7: Draw a line connecting this dash and the top of your 4 in. /100 mm line.
It should look like this so far 11 in. /280 mm 4 in. /100 mm
Step 8: On the left side of the folder from the bottom corner, draw dashes at 1/2 in. /12 mm and 3 1/2 in. /88 mm.
Step 9: Repeat on the right side of the main body panel
Step 10: Draw a 3 in. /75 mm line from your first dash
Step 11: Then draw dashes (Dotted lines) the rest of the way
It should look like this 3 in. /75 mm
Step 12: Repeat on the lower dashes
Step 13: Connect the ends of the two 3 in. /75 mm lines with a solid line
Now your Main Body Panel is complete! 3 in. /75 mm
Now we will move on to the Fins
Step 1: On the top line of the body panel on the left side, measure and make dashes at 1/2 in. /12 mm, 3 in. /75 mm, 5 1/2 in. /138 mm and 6 in. /150 mm.
Step 2: Repeat at the top reference Line
Step 3: Connect the two dashes at 6 in. /150 mm.
Step 4: At the 3 in. /75 mm measurement, make a 1/2 in. /12 mm line straight up from the bottom.
Step 5: Connect the top of the 1/2 in. /12 mm line to the 5 1/2 in. /138 mm dash.
Step 6: Repeat in the opposite direction (to the 1/2 in. /12 mm dash)
It should look like this
Step 7: Shade in the part that is not the fin.
Now we move on to the Air Scoop
Important Note!!! You will start the next series of steps directly to the right of your completed Fins, indicated by the arrow on the next slide.
Where you will start the Air Scoop.
Step 1: Starting on the bottom line, draw dashes at 3/8 in. /9 mm, 3 3/8 in. /84 mm and 3 3/4 in. /93 mm.
Step 2: Do the same at the top reference Line, except at a dash for 1/4 in. /6 mm
Step 3: Draw solid lines connecting measurements as shown in the engineering drawing.
Solid lines should look like this
Step 4: Draw dashed lines as shown in the engineering drawing.
Should look like this
Step 5: Shade in parts that are not a part of the skimmer assembly.
This is the finished product!!!
