How to form questions with modals ■ In this example, we use Cam tp ask about abilities. The word order is the same for all subjects. Yes/No Questions Modal Subj. Verb (base form) Rest Answer Can You run fast? Yes, I can/No, I cannot Information Questions Question Word Modal Subj. Verb (base form) Rest Answer When can you go there? I can go there in 10 minutes.

How to ask questions with Have to ■ Questions with Have to are formed differently than with the rest of the modals. To ask questions, you need to use the auxiliary Do/Does Yes/No Questions Do/Does Subj Have to Verb (base form) Rest Do they have to go to school? Rest Information Questions Question word Do/Does Subj Have to Verb (base form) What does he have to do?
Rule exception ■ Sometimes, the rule to ask information questions changes a little depending on which Question Word you use, especially with How many, How much, and What kind. When you ask a question with How many and How much, you want to know a quantity of something. How many what? How much what? (Combien de quoi? ) What kind of what? (Quel sorte de quoi? ) So, the rule is going to be: Information Question word What? Modal Subj. Verb (base form) How much How many milk jumps can he drink? do? What kind of sandwich should I order?
