SCHEDULING ELA Assessment Updates 2021 – 22 The ELA Summative Assessment will retain a shortened blueprint for 2021 -22 and beyond. • The ELA CAT consists of approximately 24 – 25 items. • The ELA PT contains 1 research item and 1 full-write composition. • Additionally, narrative writing has been removed from the PT. • Students in all grades will be assessed in the ELA Performance Task (full-write) on the writing purposes of either Informational/Expository or Opinion/Argumentative. • Student testing time is estimated to be between 3: 45 – 4: 00 in each grade.

Update: ELA Designated Support Text-to-Speech • In 2019 – 2020, ODE expanded the use of Text-to-Speech for the English language arts – Performance Task as a designated support. • Test Administrators will be able to set Text-to-Speech settings for ELA CAT and ELA PT tests differently. • Student Test Settings in TIDE will be broken out into two columns for the ELA CAT and ELA PT tests.

Differences for Use of the ELA CAT and ELA PT Text-to-Speech ELA CAT •

Differences for Use of the ELA CAT and ELA PT Text-to-Speech ELA CAT • Text-to-Speech in the ELA CAT for stimuli refers to the reading passages associated with Claim 1 Reading. • This support is only selectable as an accommodation for students whose need is documented in an IEP or 504 plan. See Table 2. 5 of the Oregon Accessibility Manual ELA PT • Text-to-Speech in the ELA PT for stimuli refers to the reading sources embedded in the ELA PT associated with Claim 4 Research and Claim 2 Writing (full write/writing extended response). • This support is now selectable as a designated support. See Table 2. 3 of the Oregon Accessibility Manual

SCHEDULING Test Window & Expiration, cont. • Test windows have been developed to provide districts with local flexibility options in order to manage available resources • For the ELA and Mathematics CAT, test opportunities are subject to a 45 -calendar day expiration period. • For the ELA and Mathematics PT, test opportunities are subject to a 20 -calendar day expiration period. TAM, Section 5. 2: School-Level Test Windows

SCHEDULING Planning & Scheduling • The ELA and Mathematics assessments should be given on separate days; finish one before starting the other. • It is recommended, but not required, that the CAT be administered first. • Neither the ELA or Mathematics assessments are timed; students should be allowed to continue working as long as they are making progress. TAM, Section 8. 0: English Language Arts & Mathematics Assessments
