3 Days of Testing Ø Day 1 - ACT Plus Writing Ø Day 2 - Work. Keys Ø Day 3 - MME: Math, Science, Social Studies

Day 1 - ACT Plus Writing l English- 45 minutes, 75 Questions • ( 37 seconds/question) l Math- 60 minutes, 60 Questions • (1 minute/question) l l Break- 15 minutes Reading- 35 minutes, 40 Questions • (less than 1 minute/question) l Science- 35 minutes, 40 Questions • (less than 1 minute/question) l l Break- 5 minutes Writing Test- 30 minutes, 1 Prompt

ACT Writing Test Ø The ACT Writing Test complements the English Test. The combined information from both tests tells postsecondary institutions about students' understanding of the conventions of standard written English and their ability to produce a direct sample of writing. Essay setup: Ø Before starting to write, make a T chart and list your pros and cons for each side. Then you can pick from your list to write your essay. The essay topic will give you some pros and cons to start off with. Type 1: Intro Type 2: Intro Pro 1 Pro 2 Cons Pro 3 Conclusion

Ø Sample Essay topic: Educators debate extending high school to five years because of increasing demands on students from employers and colleges to participate in extracurricular activities and community service in addition to having high grades. Some educators support extending high school to five years because they think students need more time to achieve all that is expected of them. Other educators do not support extending high school to five years because they think students would lose interest in school and attendance would drop in the fifth year. In your opinion, should high school be extended to five years?

Ø In your essay, take a position on this question. You may write about either one of the two points of view given, or you may present a different point of view on this question. Use specific reasons and examples to support your position.

Test Taking Strategies ACT Reading test (35 minutes): there are 4 readings with 10 questions each, meaning that you have less than 10 minutes to read a story and answer 10 questions about it. Ø After the 5 minute warning at the end of each section, you need to see how many questions are left, and fill in "B", or "G" in the remaining questions. Ø You do not get marked off for wrong answers, so this way they have a 25% chance of getting the remaining questions correct. Ø

Rules During Testing Ø You must have a photo ID Ø No cell phones, ipods, purses, bags, coats, food, drinks etc. Ø If you arrive after testing has begun, you will be escorted off the premises and not allowed to take that portion of the test Ø No talking during testing- if you talk, your test will be voided and you will be unable to re-take the test.

Prohibited Behavior § § Ø Creating disturbance Giving/receiving help Working on a previous test section Working after time has been called If not exhibiting acceptable behavior you will be escorted out of the building and not allowed to take the remaining part of the tests.

MME at Bradford Ø This is the second year the MME will be administered at Bradford, so it is likely that ACT and/or state officials will be here to monitor the testing and make sure the rules are being followed

Testing Details Ø Testing will take place in the gym for all three days. Ø Start times and more details about test day schedules will be discussed in a meeting closer to the testing dates. Ø Go to ACT. org for specific questions and test taking strategies.

Pre-Testing Ø You will be filling out demographic information, name, address, etc. on the testing answer folders in your classrooms in Mrs. De. Groff’s class next week. Ø Please make sure you are at school that day and all days of testing (March 1 st-3 rd ). Ø Pre-testing will be done on Tuesday, February 22 nd. BE HERE.
