The State Flag • The State Flag was adopted in 1911. The first flag displayed a Quit portrait of Stevens Thomas Mason, Michigan’s first governor, on one side, and the state coat of arms (shown below) on the other. Today, only the coat of arms is displayed on the flag.
The Apple Blossom • • Quit became Michigan’s State Flower on February 9, 1987. The blossom is very fragrant and pretty. Michigan is also very famous for it’s apples, so this flower is very fitting.
