What this means for Australian Taekwondo & its clubs • We take seriously our positive obligation to educate and inform everyone involved in our sport to: • Protect and look after each other • NO TURNING A BLIND EYE TO MISCONDUCT • Protect and look after children or young people from child abuse and grooming • MAINTAIN HIGHEST LEVEL OF BEHAVIOUR AND ACT FAST IF MISCONDUCT IS DISCOVERED • Create and maintain a child-safe culture and a culture of inclusion and safety that is understood, endorsed and put into action by all • TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY FOR CHILD SAFETY WITHIN CLUBS AND THE BROADER AUSTRALIAN TAEKWONDO COMMUNITY

What is a Serious Incident ? • Child Abuse involves conduct which puts children

What is a Serious Incident ? • Child Abuse involves conduct which puts children at risk of harm (usually by adults, sometimes by other children) and often by those they know and trust. It can take many forms, including verbal and physical actions and by people failing to provide them with basic care. Child abuse may include: • Physical abuse by hurting a child or a child’s development (e. g. hitting, shaking or other physical harm; giving a child alcohol or drugs; or training that exceeds the child’s development or maturity). • Sexual abuse by adults or other children where a child is encouraged or forced to watch or engage in sexual activity or where a child is subject to any other inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature (e. g. sexual intercourse, masturbation, oral sex, pornography including child pornography or inappropriate touching or conversations). • Emotional/psychological abuse by ill-treating a child (e. g. humiliation, taunting, sarcasm, yelling, negative criticism, name calling, ignoring or placing unrealistic expectations on a child). This can occur online as well as offline.

What is a Serious Incident ? • Category 1: Child abuse; sexual misconduct and serious criminal conduct • Category 2: State-related or inter-club incidents that do not involve child abuse or serious criminal conduct • Category 3: Incidents related to adults in our sport (not described in Category 1) such as Bullying, Harassment or interacting All our members should feel comfortable raising them with their Club, State and/or National Association

Keeping our sport safe – Handling Complaints • It’s important that the handling of complaints is fair, just and transparent • Club administrators and Associations should: • • • Treat complaints seriously Act promptly Treat people fairly and listen to both sides of the story Stay neutral – ask for the support of the State and/or National Association if this proves to be difficult Keep parties to the complaint informed Try to Maintain confidentiality if possible Protect against victimisation Keep accurate records Make decisions based only on information gathered not personal views Disciplinary action should be relative to the breach

Keeping our sport safe – No Sexual Misconduct Australian Taekwondo Values • Courtesy • Integrity • Perseverance • Self-control • Indomitable Spirit • Sexual Misconduct means any of the following: • Sexual Offences • Sexual Harassment; and • The use of technology or social media platforms with sexual connotation • What is Sexual Harassment? • Unwanted, unwelcome or uninvited behaviour of a sexual nature and which could reasonably be anticipated to make a person feel humiliated, intimidated or offended. • May take many different forms and may include unwanted physical contact, verbal comments, jokes, propositions, displays of pornographic or offensive material or other behaviour that creates a hostile environment • Examples in Sport • Instructors/Coaches & trainees • Online comments

Ie • Verbal (name calling, put downs, threats) • Physical (hitting, punching, kicking, scratching, tripping and spitting) • Social (ignoring, excluding, ostrasizing, alienating) • Psychological (spreading rumours, stalking, dirty looks, hiding or damaging possessions) • It includes Cyber bullying. • Examples in Sport • teams and clubs

Keeping our sport safe – No harassment Australian Taekwondo Values • Courtesy • Integrity • Perseverance • Self-control • Indomitable Spirit • Harassment means any type of behaviour that the other person does not want and this is offensive, abusive, belittling or threatening and that is reasonably likely to cause Harm to the person who is subject to the harassment. • It does not matter whether the Harassment was intended: the focus is on the impact of the behaviour. • Harassment may be a single incident or repeated. It may be explicit, implicit, verbal or non-verbal and includes public acts of hatred. • Examples in sport • Competition environments which create animosity between players and/or clubs • Supporters – harassing their own players and those of other teams

Keeping our sport safe – No Neglect Australian Taekwondo Values • Courtesy • Integrity • Perseverance • Self-control • Indomitable Spirit • Neglect is the persistent failure or deliberate failure or denial to provide a child or young person with the basic necessities of life. • Failure to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, adequate supervision, clean water, medical attention or supervision to the extent that the Child or young person’s health and development is or is likely to be Harmed. • Examples in sport: • Occur in competition; training camps particularly where children or young persons are away from home

Keeping our sport safe – No Neglect -example Australian Taekwondo Values • Courtesy • Integrity • Perseverance • Self-control • Indomitable Spirit • Overnight stays and sleeping arrangements for Children or Young People • Clubs are responsible for • providing appropriate supervision at all times as practicable, allowing for their privacy when bathing and dressing • Observing appropriate dress standards when Children or Young people are present – such as no exposure to adult nudity • Not allowing exposure to pornographic material • Not leaving the children or young people unattended or under the supervision or protection of unauthorised persons such as hotel staff or friends • Not permitting sleeping arrangements that may compromise safety of children or young people • The right of children or young people to contact their parents or others if they feel unsafe, uncomfortable or distressed during their stay • Allowing parents to contact their children of young people if they wish

Keeping our sport Safe – In your Club We are committed to making our sport safe so if you are aware of any behaviour that is not keeping our sport safe please raise it with: 1. your Club representative who handles complaints and/or 2. the State Association or 3. the National Association We will investigate all complaints raised. Appropriate discipline will be taken if complaint proven. Equally if you are aware of any behaviour and activities which keeps our sport safe that happen within your club – tell us & vote for your Club to be awarded in the Annual Taekwondo Keeping Our Sport Safe Award
