*CALL TO WORSHIP AND INVOCATION L: Listen, sisters and brothers: God is calling YOU today! P: Lord, help us hear your voice in our hearts.
L: God in Christ is calling you to follow and serve. P: Lord, your call is challenging and demanding.
L: Friends, place your trust in God’s eternal love to guide and strengthen. P: Lord, let us trust you in all our ways.
L: Come, let us worship and celebrate God’s call and presence! P: Open our hearts, O Lord, to hear your voice and to follow you.
*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 1 O Christ, the great foundation on which your people stand To preach your true salvation in every age and land:
*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 1 Pour out your Holy Spirit to make us strong and pure, To keep the faith unbroken as long as worlds endure.
*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 2 Baptized in one confession, one church in all the earth, We bear our Lord’s impression, the sign of second birth,

*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 3 Where tyrants’ hold is tightened, where strong devour the weak, Where innocents are frightened, the righteous fear to speak;
*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 3 There let your church awaking attack the powers of sin, And, all their ramparts breaking, with you the victory win.
*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 4 This is the moment glorious when he, who once was dead, Shall lead his church victorious, their champion and their head.
*HYMN #443 “O Christ the Great Foundation” v. 4 The Lord of all creation his heavenly kingdom brings: The final consummation, the glory of all things.
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) God of light, too often we live in the darkness: worried about our lives, concerned for our health,
fearful that we are lost from you. We get caught up in our unwillingness to forgive, our fears of one another, our reluctance to share what we have,
our divisions and quarrels. But deep down we long to turn from the dark and live in the light. We yearn to leave what is bad and follow the paths of what is right.
Open our eyes to the light of your dawn, that our souls may be flooded with love and mercy and joy. Shine the light of your love upon us and transform us with your love,
that your promised kingdom may draw near. Amen. (silence is observed for reflection and prayer)
ASSURANCE OF PARDON L: Sisters and brothers, the light of God’s love shines into the dark places of our world, healing its brokenness, and bringing hope to places of despair.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON P: The light of God’s love makes us a forgiven people. Thanks be to God!

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: Micah 6: 1 -8
Hear what the Lord says: Rise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice. Hear, you mountains, the controversy of the Lord, and you enduring fountains of the earth;
for the Lord has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel. ‘O my people, what have I done to you? In what have I wearied you? Answer me! For I brought you up from the land of Egypt,
and redeemed you from the house of slavery; and I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. O my people, remember now what King Balak of Moab devised, what Balaam son of Beor answered him,
and what happened from Shittim to Gilgal, that you may know the saving acts of the Lord. ’ ‘With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? ’ He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 4: 12 -23
Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galileee. He left Nazareth and made his home in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what had been spoken through
the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: ‘Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali, on the road by the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles—the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and
shadow of death light has dawned. ’ From that time Jesus began to proclaim, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near. ’ As he walked by the Sea of Galileee, he saw two brothers,
Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fish for people. ’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left the boat and their father,
and followed him. Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.
L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!
