Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #6 - Not Paying Attention

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #6 - Not Paying Attention - This parent means no wicked malice. Maybe they are deep in thought, reading a great book, or just staring off into the bright sunshine, but they are holding up the line and leaving several car lengths of distance between them and the car ahead of them. This allows the predator, the line-cutter, ample space to do their deeds and increases the time people spend in line. Pay attention, please.

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #5 – Leaving Your Car

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #5 – Leaving Your Car - Ultra frustrating is the person that parks their car while in line and leaves it. Assuredly the line will begin to move and you’ll be the one stuck behind the car with no driver.

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #4 – Arriving Late -

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #4 – Arriving Late - When people are late, they might attempt to circumvent the system any way they can to avoid the consequence. They will pass the line entirely and try to “double park” the line and get their child. Or they will park in illegal areas and have their child meet them there, putting the child in danger as they make their way through all the other cars properly in line. If you’re late…you’re late. Deal with it rationally.

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #3 - Holding up the

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #3 - Holding up the Line - Every school has a designated spot to drop off your children. It is never the spot where you want to drop your kids off. Learn and accept this, and you’ll be doing many a great service. Pay attention to the staff members sweating in the heat, freezing in the cold, or getting soaked in the rain, and pull forward.

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #2 - Line Cutting -

Countdown of the Top Six Carpool Violations to Avoid #2 - Line Cutting - In the world of school carpool lines, this is the most egregious and self -centered act a person can commit. Don’t be this person. Everyone in line is in a hurry. Nobody in line actually enjoys being there. We are all in the same boat.

Class News Help Sessions: Teachers will inform students of help sessions. These are typically before school, but sometimes occur during HR or after school. Most teachers will hold special sessions before a test. Recovery: Each teacher’s syllabus will address his/her recovery policy. Teachers will allow students to retake/make-up a poor test score following outlined guidelines. Progress Reports: Students will receive progress reports every 4 ½ weeks. Final grades for academic courses are issued each semester (report card).

Communication Teacher/staff email addresses can be found on the HMS website (currently being updated).

Communication Teacher/staff email addresses can be found on the HMS website (currently being updated). Teachers will create a Class Notebook for their course, which you can access through their Office 365 account. You should always email the subject area teacher if you have specific questions/concerns about a class. The homeroom teacher can answer questions relating to school in general. Mr. Susina and Mrs. Sosebee should be your direct lines to address other concerns.

Absences An excused absence is a personal illness, illness or death in the immediate family, recognized religious holidays observed by the individual’s faith, court mandates, and other conditions rendering school attendance impossible or hazardous to a student’s health or safety. STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN ABSENT (Fulton County Board of Education Procedure): Ø Parent/guardian should write a note stating the child’s name, dates of absences, reason for absence, and parent signature. The student should give the note to the front office within THREE days of returning to school. Ø A student is permitted and encouraged to make up work missed because of excused absences, approved absences, and temporary placement. It is the student’s sole responsibility to make contact with the teacher(s) to initiate all make-up work. The contact must be made within ONE school day of returning. The teacher will establish a reasonable time period for completion of the makeup work. This time period will be at least as long as the student’s absence.

Absences An approved absence should be prearranged through written request to the grade-level Assistant

Absences An approved absence should be prearranged through written request to the grade-level Assistant Principal before the absence occurs. Approved prearranged absences shall be permitted for a travel opportunity with educational benefits, a graduation or wedding of a close family member, a specialized educational experience, or an event mutually agreed to by the parent and the Administration. Approved absences are limited to six per year.

Early Dismissal & Dismissal If a student needs to leave school before normal dismissal

Early Dismissal & Dismissal If a student needs to leave school before normal dismissal time, a note from the parent or guardian requesting early dismissal must be sent to the office on the morning of the requested early dismissal. The student will be listed on the “check out” sheet and will be dismissed from class to come to the office at the time indicated on the note. Parents or guardians must come into the office in person and present a photo ID to sign out their child. Your cooperation with this procedure is requested as it minimizes interruptions to instruction and ensures safety and security of all students. In an emergency a parent may come directly to the office to request that a student be dismissed early. Students cannot be checked out after 3: 30. Middle school dismissal: Your student needs to know he/she will get home. Make sure you talk to your student and they know what bus they ride, if they should be a car rider, etc. Also, make sure your student talks to YOU! They should tell you when they have afterschool activities and need to be picked up later (don’t panic when they don’t get off the bus).
