What makes a great introduction? � Grabs the reader’s attention � Provides an overview of the topics which will be discussed � Thesis statement! Does this guy have your attention?
Your Introduction 1. Begin with your definition of values. Explain the values you see in our culture. Try to make it interesting. 2. Briefly explain what books you will be discussing (i. e. Beowulf and Arthur/Hobbit) 3. End with thesis statement 4. Should be about 5 -6 sentences total
Question � What of the following is a good first sentence? 1. Do you have values? I have them and they great. They are family, friends and respect. 2. Values are important to me. I have many of them. I am going to tell you about them today. 3. Why does a fireman run into a burning building to save a cat? He probably does it because he values life and has a duty to protect it.

Conclusion 1. Restate thesis (don’t copy/paste!) 2. Summarize your body paragraphs 3. Conclude with a final lesson
