About the Foundation • Millburn Education Foundation invests 100% of funds in technologies and key initiatives that support a best in class learning experience for Millburn School District 24 students. • Millburn Education Foundation works closely with the administration, staff and community to ensure donated resources are fully leveraged across all grade levels at Millburn School District 24.

Millburn As textbooks become obsolete and the classroom model becomes technology based, we want our students to continue our District’s excellence in education and to keep our students competitive. The Foundation partners directly with the administration to align funding to critical technology needs. $75, 000 The Foundation donated $50, 000 to the district last year and made a commitment to donate 25, 000 for the 2015 -2016 school year.

What is the Millburn District PTO? • *Parents and teachers who work together to provide educational and fun activities throughout the year • *Student Enhancement Fund: PTO contributes $18 to every student each year. Total investment in our students last year was $25, 000! Money is used for field trips like Marriott Theater, Discovery Museum, Camp Timberlee, Springfield and more. Also for classroom magazine subscriptions. • *Investment in Technology: The PTO helped purchase LCD projectors for district classrooms in 2013. A cart with 30 mini i. Pads in 2014. Another cart with 30 mini i. Pads in 2015. Over this summer, the PTO paid for a new sign at MMS and filtered water bottle filling stations at MES.
What is the Millburn District PTO? • *Teacher Support: The PTO gives each district teacher a $30 stipend to spend locally at Brainstorm for classroom supplies. PTO provides staff appreciation lunches and dessert raffles throughout the year and gifts during National Teacher Appreciation Week. • *Fun for Every Student: Coordinates 3 Family Fun Nights at MES and 3 Activity Nights at MMS. Organizes the classroom holiday celebrations, holiday surprises at MMS, Fall Fest, Talent Shows, 8 th Grade Farewell Celebration, 2 Book Fairs, and more!

Lending a Helping Hand Volunteer Program • This volunteer Program was researched in 2010 -2011. It started up in our district in 2011 to Present • The Volunteer Program Guidelines and Handbook can be found on the District Website. Look for appropriate links on the left. • Teachers identify volunteer needs, projects • The Coordinator sends an email to volunteer group • Volunteers respond via email if able to help • Coordinator matches volunteers to teacher requests • Sign up on clipboard at table station in hallway

PBIS: “Do your Part” The purpose: Mr. Jorgenson and the teaching staff explained to all the students on the first 2 days of school that we are highlighting the behavior expectations, Acknowledgements and Consequences so that we can focus on Teaching and Learning. Acknowledgements: We are using white tickets to acknowledge students for good behavior. We also recognize students as Student/Citizen of the month based on teacher/student observation. This is monthly and we invite parents of the students in to see their child get recognized with their peers during a combined lunch. White tickets get turned into Raffles or used in classroom with teacher incentives.
PBIS: “Do your Part” Notification of Behavior: Will result in call or email home, classroom modification, other. Staff will let students know when issuing a notification of behavior. Form will be filled out by staff member and emailed to parents. Please email staff member back so we know you received it.
PBIS: “Do your Part” Notification of Detention: Issued when behavior warrants a detention. Form will be filled out by staff member and emailed to parents. Detention date will be listed on the form. Typically served on Fridays from 3 to 4. Also posted in building calendar online. Must Confirm that you are aware of detention and pick up arrangements have been made for 4 pm. Student will attend Teacher Review Board during study hall or recess following the detention. Reflection form from detention will be used at Review Board.
PBIS: “Do your Part” • Tier 2 of PBIS is on it’s way. This is a Check In / Check Out system used to address chronic but mild misbehavior in students. • For example: Kids that are late often, get referrals often, don’t turn in homework often, fail to prepare for tests, don’t come to class prepared, etc. • Quick meeting with a staff member before school starts and at dismissal to help offer encouragement, coaching, and check progress of the day. Aim is to improve the problem behavior. • Students carry a form that teachers rate based on school expectations. This form is shared with the staff member during CICO.
Testing Information NWEA: Reading and Math, Fall and Spring, takes about 1 hour each, Shows progress over time AIMSweb: Short timed event, measures fluency in Math and Reading, Fall / Winter / Spring, used to help identify students that need more support in reading or Math PARCC: Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers State level assessment in Reading, Writing and Math Used in School Report Card Second year for this new assessment
DRESS CODE The Complete Dress Code Can be found on page 23 of the Parent Student Handbook. Here are specific areas that apply to our students: No Gang, alcohol, sexual connotation, bad language references on clothes Undergarments must be covered. Boxer Shorts, bra straps, underwear should be covered at all times. Short shorts, skirts: “no less than 4 inch inseam”. Yoga Pants can be worn but top should cover the front and back of the yoga pants.
Millburn Middle School National Junior Honor Society • Our chapter started in 2013 • NJHS has its foundation in five principals: • Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character • 7 th and 8 th grade students who meet the initial qualifications will be invited to complete a candidate form for submission • Students with a cumulative grade point average of 3. 85 and above will receive invitations sometime after first quarter • All candidate forms are reviewed by a panel of teachers
Powerschool Students have their login information already. If they forget it, they can get it from their homeroom teacher at any time. Parent are strongly encouraged to use Powerschool to stay current on student progress. If you created your account last year, all login information stays the same. Benefits: one login for multiple kids, smart phone app, weekly email update, schedule distribution via powerschool in August 2016 like we did this year. If you have not done this, visit the office tonight to get directions, code to initiate your Powerschool account.

GRADE LEVEL WEBSITES Each teacher has his/her own website. Websites will list homework as well as other important information for each class. How to get to the websites: Go to www. millburn 24. net Go to the Parent/Community tab Click on Teacher Website Directory Click on 7 th Grade. Choose the teacher website you wish to visit. To get to another teacher’s website, go to the home page of the website you are on, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link for the other websites.

It is still a grade-level class. • It goes at the same pace as a regular class and covers the same material. • For example, 7 th ELA has only ONE high class (Honors). All other classes are considered grade-level classes.

CONFERENCE SIGN UPS We are going to use an online service for conference sign up. Step by step directions will be emailed to all families at the same time later in September or early in October. Conferences are student led and located in the West Gym. Dates are November 23 rd and 24 th from 12 to 8 pm. Conferences are 20 minutes long. If you can, please sign up for an earlier time slot. You can avoid any lines that develop at the more popular later time slots.
