PROGRAMS GATE (Gifted & Talented) • Identified through LAUSD procedures. • Academic-Related Areas: Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic. • Talent Areas: Performing Arts, Dance, Leadership, Visual Arts, Creative SAS (School for Advanced Studies) • Program to address the needs of identified GATE students in academic-related areas or meet the criterion to be identified. • Permit issued for students who do not reside within school boundaries. • Extension for the Gifted Magnet schools • Different SAS schools throughout the district.
BUDGET • Purpose of Funding: Provide school with money to augment the instructional program for GATE students and in the identification of potential GATE students from all ethnic, linguistic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. • Amount Allocated to School: $25 per identified student. • Example of Expenditures: instructional materials, professional development activities, instructional equipment, and curricular field trips.
CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION • Purpose: Provide students with standardsbased differentiated curriculum. • Student Outcomes: A positive learning experience that will challenge their area of strengths including talented students.

CLUSTERING STUDENTS Students are programmed into classes that are identified SAS/GATE classes. They are clustered together.
Parent Involvement • Parent Representative Needed: Attend Meetings and assist school in the development of the Local GATE/SAS plan. • Three Meetings During School Year: Topics will Reflect Parent Needs.
LOCAL GATE/SAS PLAN l Purpose: School-wide Plan to Address the Needs of the GATE/SAS students. Goals Established 1) Critical Thinking 2) Arts and Communication Skills 3) Mandatory Goal l

ARTS & COMMUNICATION SKILLS l l l OBJECTIVES Applies appropriate mechanics of the art of communication skill. Displays imagination through verbal and nonverbal expression. Is receptive to instructions or criticism. EVALUATION METHODS 1) Teacher-Made Test 2) Checklist 3) Observation Form
