Philosophy-Freshman Football Team • Freshman is DEVELOPMENTAL • Playing Time • Everyone that has been to practice, knows what they are doing and can safely do so plays • Doesn’t mean equal time • We will always discuss playing time and position questions with your son if they ask • Playing “UP” • We try to keep Freshman on Freshman…keep the group together • Some players are asked to split time with JV for a few reasons (depth primarily) • Players may be asked to practice with Varsity but still play Freshman • Playing varsity as a freshman is RARE…physical and mental challenges/difference
Multiple Sport • PLAY SPORTS, COMPETE, HAVE FUN!!!! • 97% on Varsity Roster: • Lacrosse, Baseball, Track, Basketball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Hockey, Rugby • How do we assist? • What about specialization? • Who is pushing it? • Why? • Is there proof? WEEK 12 STARTERS
Program Standards Relentless Effort The Ball Fight/Finish
Standards-Overall-Conceptual • Relentless Pursuit & Effort (Approach) • Sport • Get to the Ball • Hustle • School • Study • Ask Questions/Seek Help • Life • Chase dreams • Do MORE than the job/responsibility • Don’t stop • The Ball (Material/Means) • Sport • Protect/Take the Ball • Take the Ball • School • GPA • Graduation • Life • The Bag • What you Value • Goals/Mission • Finish (Mindset/Resolve) • Sport • Through the line • Land on top • School • No half way • Highest quality • Life • Follow through to completion • May succeed, may fail, don’t give up • Find a way

CSA 6 w
Parent of an Athlete • You won’t always agree with what we do, but support is needed • Sometimes Priorities aren’t the Same but neither are experiences • Parents • 1 -2 Kids in the program • Emphasis on those individuals • Coaches • • 100+ Kids in the program Emphasis on the program Must make decisions on what’s best for the program Must use lifting, 7 s, camp, 2 a days, practice, scrimmages, film, chalk talk, conversations, intangibles, team dynamics, team and program needs, etc to decide positions and playing time • Emotions • Your son will get emotional, may get frustrated, more times than not this is natural and good…
Communication/Meetings • We try to communicate through players, many things will be posted to Twitter (@coachgecewich) • They are almost always told the pertinent information • 1 -Son, 2 -Class Rep, 3 -Post, 4 -Email/Team Pages (rjgecew@gmail. com) • Meeting Protocol • Players • We will meet with them about nearly anything • Parents • Never approach a coach before, during, or after a practice or game • Talk to your son first • Think big picture
Communication/Meeting • If your concern has to do with health/safety LET US KNOW!!! • 24 hour rule then set up an appointment if there is an issue you find pressing enough • We will only address YOUR student athlete • WE WILL NOT DISCUSS PLAYING TIME OR SCHEME WITH YOU • “Please do not tell my son I contacted you…” • How do I address an issue I’m not supposed to know is an issue? • Meeting together allows for zero lost in translation • Only Exception. . .
