CATIA Design Requirements applied to Handling & Transport at CERN 26 th CATIA Forum Jean-Louis GRENARD on Behalf of EN-HE design office 18 -May-2017
Summary • Who are we! • The EN-HE design office a crosswise design office • The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • What module of CATIA do we use • What’s available from our side • What we get from our suppliers • What kind of info's we need 18 -05 -2017
Who are we! • Staffs, fellow, contractors, technical students, PJAS…. • ~8 users 18 -05 -2017
The EN-HE design office a crosswise design office • We study our own transport and handling equipment • We study for other services the way of handling accelerators components, equipment installation… • We improve our handling procedures for the handling of the most radioactive components • We interact with several other internal design offices (CE, integration, mechanical design office’s…) • We interact with several other external design offices (cranes manufacturers, special handling equipment) • We collect our input from various forms (paper, 2 D drawings, exchange CAD data files, 3 D scans…) 18 -05 -2017
The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • Spaces reservations We don't ask for space which is not required : while there is safety margin this is because we need this space 18 -05 -2017
The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • Lifting configurations Weight 60 t (~ 40 t of cryostat and ~ 20 t of detector) Length ~20. 3 m Width ~4 m Height ~4. 4 m 18 -05 -2017
The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • Conceptual design for call for tender 18 -05 -2017
The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • Integration of new handling equipment 18 -05 -2017
The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • Simulation of installation 18 -05 -2017
The mains uses of CATIA in transport and handling design office • Mechanical design 18 -05 -2017
What module of CATIA do we use • Part Design • Assembly Design • Drafting • DMU Kinematics • DMU Fitting • Generative Structural Analysis • DMU navigator 18 -05 -2017
What’s available from our side • Various lifting equipment's from the forklift to the shackles * You could try to implement those on your models but be careful transport and handling is a specially; knowledge of the equipment is mandatory in order to safely use those equipment's 18 -05 -2017
What kind of info's we need • Weight of the objects (and position of the gravity center) • Overall dimensions • Presence and position of the lifting point(s) • Then we need to understand how fragile is our equipment 18 -05 -2017
What we get from our suppliers • 3 D models of complete assembly of new or refurbished equipment 18 -05 -2017
Last but not least! • While you design a new equipment please contact us in order to check the feasibility of the handling of the equipment and it installation at the various places of the life cycle of the equipment We are there in order to support your design and make sure we could transport, install your equipment! 18 -05 -2017
